#Hitachi CDROM 3600 light

Hi!
I just got a Hitachi 3600U CdRom drive, and it installed without any problems.
However, I've noticed that the 'Busy" light is on constantly, whether or not
the drive is being accessed. Is this normal? (The driver is HITACHIA.SYS 2.20)
Also, is the drive Photo CD compatible? There is no mention of either MPC or
Photo compatibility, although the specs are well within the MPC range. There is
not much documentation on this drive in the LIBS here, but what there was was
extremely useful!
I've sure been enjoying my (very few) CDROM disks! (A Sony Laser Library six
disk set I picked up at a low price, but with no way to install the Laser
Library!)

The drive busy light is green to indicate power ON. Same with CDR3700, 3650
3750, 6700 and 1900S. This is normal. It flashes amber when accessed and
(during a seek) and when a caddy is loaded. Many of these drives are used in
external cabinets, so the power light lets theuser know the drive has power.
The drive is NOT MPC compliant, but can do MPC stuff that needs 100KB or less
data rate when the 3.05 drivers are used. VfW is a slideshow. The new drivers
will add single session PhotoCD support and improve MPC performance. CDREXT5D
for about $30 thru Todd Enterprises or Laser Resources in Carson, CA 310 AC

Thanks for the reply. It is a relief to know that there isn't a problem with
the light!
It is disappointing to know that the MPC data rate is less than 100KB, because
the drive specs in the docs claim that the sustained transfer rate is 175.2KB.
I was hoping for MPC compatibility, even though it isn't listed as MPC
compatible. (Oh well…) <g>
Bill, do you know of any kind of MPC test program, which could test the actual
speed of the drive, as manufacturers specs are always "optomistic" at best!?
