I have a two questions:
1) Is it possible to network an Amiga and a Macintosh together?
2) Is there a cable hook-up that will allow me to download files off the Amiga
onto the Mac?
I am using an Amiga 2000HD and a Mac Quadra 650 if that helps.

Details:
1. TCP/IP is available for the Amiga and the Mac. Ethernet works great.
Expensive. Expect to pay $300 for an Amiga Ethernet card, before
software.
2. You need a NULL modem serial cable. Any computer dealer which carries
Macs should be able to help you — you'll use the same cable as to
connect a PC and a mac through the serial ports (well, for PCs with 25-pin
serial ports).

i have been kicking around the idea of networking my amiga & 486 together
for a while. i'm rather new to networking, so you'll have to excuse my
dumb (or better put 'uninformed' :D) questions. 🙂
besides making it easier for me to shoot files back & forth between
computers, what would i gain from spending the big bucks to network the
two? would i be able to run pc programs from my amiga? would i be able to
run pc programs that use a mouse via the network?

thanks. i figured that's pretty much all i could do with it. my only
experience with networks is from the school where i got my two year
computer-electronics degree from. the only things i did with it was
running wordperfect, lotus, and tasm from a server. i wanted to try
running a massive falcon3 game on it, but the programming dept tended to
be of the mainframe (computers are for serious business only!) mentality.
🙂 though i did have a nice assembler instructor who had use write a space
invaders style game for our final. 🙂
i guess i'm better off saving my money and sticking to the switchbox &
cable jungle. 🙂 nothing like good 'ol fashioned sneakernet. 🙂

Oh. There certainly are network games and many other neat applications,
its just that most of them won't interoperate between an Amiga and a PC.
Most are huge (X-Windows based) or specific to one platform.

Is that all there is to it? I just hook up a null modem cable and I can grab
files from the Amiga onto the Mac? Do I need a term program or something
running at both ends?

then downloading them onto the Mac. Great!
