#3ds books

Yes, using your AutocAD elevations you can create a 3D Model for use
inside 3DS. The trick is to take them into the 2D Shaper (weld the
vertices and close the shapes) then into the 3D Lofter. THen you can
arrange the facades to show the outside of the bulding…
My book is a series of 11 tutorials – all designed to let you 'learn
by doing'. I think 8 of the tutorials let you create
animations/models, 1 creates a still image (interior design), and two
are laboratories (mateials and lights/coilor/shadeows).
As for choosing a book. Get them all – they all give you something
entirely different. Which is better? Collected works of shakespear
or the constitution.
PS. Look up the book FALLING WATER – really good book I hear.
Talk to you soon.
Nancy,
on behalf of a new 3ds user friend of mine (who's not on CI$ yet), I
wanted to thank you for an excellent book. He went through the
regular 3ds3 tutorials first and now is really doing exceptionally
well by doing the tutorials in your book. Hopefully, by the time he's
completed your tutorials he will need less help from me <G>.
What a wonderful thing to say! I'm really glad he likes them, and I
hope that he does get on CIS soon because (as you know) here is where
the power users lurk. Don't forget to tell him about the other
books….
Cool!
N.
Nancy,
what other books are you referring to? You have more books available?
That's news to me. Let me know and I will point them out to him if
they are 3ds related.
Hmmm. Its been a wekk and I've forgotten the context of my mentionin gthe
other books. I was probably referring to Michele Bousquets tricks and tips,
and falling water and inside 3DS and such like.
The only book I"m working on is an instru tors guide for 3ds applied….
Talk to you soon.
N.
Hi Nancy, is your book by any chance 3d Studio Applied ?
if so, I went to a 3d users meeting with Bob Smith who sponsers it, anyway, he
had this book, and it looks very interesting, but it is not available in
Canada!
…
Mark Schneider
Montreal.
Dear Mark:
You can get my book by calling 216/891-3115. Christa Zull, who works for the
publisher, represesentative will ship anywhere…
If this doesn't work, send me a note and I'll sort it out. Tho' I've never
heard of anyone having any trouble.
The only thing is that they are in the midst of a second printing so there
maybe be some delay.
Cool?
N.
HI Nancy,
thanks for the info on the book. As I said, I saw it briefly, and it looks
interesting. By the way, is there a cd-rom with it ?
…
just can't remember.
thanks again,
Mark from Montreal.
Mark,
Yes, there is a CD-Rom with the book. Nancy can tell you more about exactly
what's on there…
Sandy
Excellent!, that is the one I will order then!
Thanks very much for the info!
bye for now
Mark from Mtl.
Yeah, it comes with a CDROM that includes 27 meshes from Viewpoint,
Schreiber and Acuris, a bunch of Public Domain Utilties (Flic
viewers, etc), and contact information for consultants and companies.
Oh, and examples of other animators work …. Thank you for asking.
I always forget that part. Talk to you soon.
HI Nancy,
I'm going to order it today!
bye for now
thanks for the info,
Mark frm Montreal.
Nancy,
You are correct in saying that lofting those elevations is an easy
task and I do it often,……….maybe you can help me with a problem
I'm having….once I get a a real nice land mass I still have to
create parking islands that conform to the contours of the land it
takes forever…..do you have any suggestions.
No and I hate that too. Actually, I do forensic animations and have
to make roads and sidewalks which match up. Its a similar problem.
The problem really comes in with the data (i.e. complex surveyed data
or data with lots of points). The only thing that I've found useful
is (in the worst cases) tracing the countours… with a PLINE before
I bring them end. Sorry, bring them in.. Remember to set your OSNAP
to node to click on points or endpoint to click on the endpoints of
lines… Talk to you soon.
Oh well,
I think I have a way that might work if it does….I'll let you know.
Later, Mark B.
You might consider trying the new Displace IPAS. Looking at these
messages, I was thinking that you could design a bitmap with only the
parking lot or road in white against a black background, and then use
Displace to push the vertices in either direction away from the land
mass. Once you've got them pushed clear of the irregular surface of
the land, they'd be easy to get into a selection set, where you
adjust them further with, say, Vertex/Align, or by using Displace
again with selected faces.
