FWIW, At a perspective that allows you to see all of the world, the hills and valleys of the surface are rather minor: +- 5 miles on a diameter of 8,000 miles. Chuck Jameson Silver Tongue Software

I guess im a little confused about your response, is that a name of a software package, or is it just a comment… I dont really need a bitmap with great detail, just something to spice up a globe, showing highs, and lows… If Silver Tongue Software is a package to do this, how can I aquire more info?

I'm a developer of interactive communications tools – usually business to business. The business name is Silver Tongue Software. I can't help you with a bit-map. I was trying to suggest that an accurate bitmap/bump map of the globe may not provide the effect you are looking for (or that another method might). Chuck Jameson Silver Tongue Software

I think the point was, if I may analogize, that the surface of the earth is proportionally smoother than the surface of your average cue ball. Hence, bump maps do not add realism. However, true realism may not be your intent. — James — MAP —
