#I screwed up bad…

Yeah, you're right. AmigaDos (rightly) won't let you give the name of an
existing dsirectory to a drawer, since apart from the icon, they are
functionally the same thing. That's also the beauty of AmigaDos, though: that
you can do a lot of things via the Workbench OR the shell. That power has a
price, though. It's unfortunately sometimes quite easy to do major damage with
just a few keystrokes (I know only too well). If you wan't to prevent any of
your files from getting accidentally deleted again, you can set the protection
bit. For instance, to prevent all icons from getting deleted, you could type
into a shell : PROTECT #?/#?info rwe
The #? are, of course wildcards, and the above line essentially tells the Amiga
to go into every directory on your currently selected volume and set every icon
(the .info suffix) to be Readable, Writeable and Executeable (hence the 'rwe'),
but not Deleteable. You can always reset the Delete protection bit later if you
ever want to ditch an icon. You can also treat regular files this way too.
Forgive me if You already know this stuff. I don't know what your level of
familiarity is with the Amiga. Cheers!

Thanks for your help,
