#WANTED:A4k CPU, 030or40

I need a Commodore A4000/A3000T CPU card. I'm supposed to get an A3000T
today, but it is 030. I'll probably rape my A4000 for its 040 card,
leaving it limp and idle.
I know several of you have upgraded to WARP technology. I'm most
interested in getting a cheap to free 030 card, but am willing to consider
really good deals on anything else. If it's going to cost me much money
at all to make my A4000 run, I'll probably sell it CPUless to someone who
wants a WARP system.

Dale,
There are other modifications that need to be made to the A3000T to make
it accept an A4000 CPU card. I can get you the details if you wish, but I
do know that several chips must be ugpraded that generally are not in the
standard A3000Ts that were manufacturered.

Yikes!! The 3000T's DMAC must be changed before it will work with CBM's
A3640 board? I just sold my A3640 to a guy back east that has a 3000T and
didn't realize this. Wonder how long it will take before I get a nasty
telephone call <g>? Hopefully he already has the upgraded DMAC. If not,
then maybe I'll have my A3640 Board up for sale again soon!

I think it depends on the A3000T. I'm not 100% sure. I do remember
having to change something on the first A3000T I put an A3640 into, but
then, that was also one of the first prototype A3640s. The T might have
been pre-production or something, so I'm not sure what the story is here.

FWIW, I sold my 3640 (rev3.1) to an A3000T owner a few weeks back, and all
he had to do was change a jumper or two. I guess if you're lucky, he has
an later model 3000T and won't have any problems.

Well I hope so. I really don't want him calling me up using nasty 4 letter
words <g>. But I would take it back if I had to. It would just be a hassle
of going through the cycle of trying to sell the darn thing again.

I understand your concerns. I wasn't happy until Steven had ironed out all
the bugs with his A3640. (I sent him the card, but forgot to send the
68040.library & ancillary files – DUH! I was able to email those to him
and he was up & running within a few days. :^)

I wonder if anyone has an idea of what jumpers may need to be changed to
get the 3000T to work with a A3640 board? I have a feeling that the person
who I sold the card to is going to need that information, but I don't have
a 3000T service manual to look it up. Dale, do you have any info?

I don't know. I don't know if it is in the A3000T manual or the A3640
manual (which comes when you buy it as an upgrade to a T, not with your
A4000).

Is there anything special I have to do to get a CBM A4000/040 CPU card to
work in a A3000? I have been told that it doesn't fit but was then told
that it works fine, does anyone REALLY knows?
I can see myself spending close to $2,000 for a GVP or a Warp board with
the state that CBM is in, so I was looking into getting a used 040.

3640 doesn't physically fit into the A3000 without modifications. You
probably don't want to mangle your A3000 or risk overheating the 040, so
I'd recommend against it.
