VIDEO POST FADE-IN
12 messages in this thread
When I use the video post transition fade-in function it appears that the
transition makes a big jump in transparency in the first frame or two of a 30
frame transition. If I use fade-in on a black image or titles with black
backgrounds a 30 frame transition looks like 15 frame transition. Do I have
something set wrong or is there something more to adjust?
Allan,
see if turning off the gamma makes any difference. That's the only thing I can
think of without more specifics. The fade-in and outs are probably very linear
but the gamma could boost black levels disproportionately.
What hardware are you using? I noticed a similar phenomenon using the PAR, see
message #105808 "PAR and Fades" for some discussion.
I have not had this happen with other equipment.

We have come to the conclusion that it is propably the gamma control because we
have dumped fades from Amiga image processing software into the PAR without any
such problems. You might also want to check into the black level setup on the
PAR and 3DS super-black option.
I will look into the black level/super black settings, but I am leaning towards
the gamma explanation too. The strange thing is that I have never noticed this
before copying files to the PAR. This would logically indicate that the PAR is
the cause, but your conclusion is contrary.
I am still wondering if the PAR has its own gamma correction or should use
different gamma settings. I do not recall reading about gamma in the PAR
manual anywhere, so I guess I will have to do some R&D on this.

We have a fade in and out IPAS routine you might be interestes in.
It's selling through Schreiber and is called Imagine Fader. This disk
set contains Lossy.ixp a Image compression utility, Fade.ixp a fade in
and out routine, Desat.ixp a routine that gets rid of over saturated images,
and Mask.ixp this routine lets you mas R,G,B,or user defined
color, it also lets you choose a fade in and out of mask for a more natural
effect.

Thanks, Mike. I have the Schrieber catalog. There are a number of IPAS
routines in there I hope to get after I buy a new Pentium. I will mark those
you mentioned for consideration.

Thanks for the intrest. To let you know these routines are fast and take little
memory.

We have the new Schreiber CD-ROM which includes tons of new IPAS routine
demo's…just call
and get the unlock code if you need a particular routine.

Frank! How are you!? I will make a note of that CD in my PIM — sounds like a
great idea. Maybe the Yost Group will do something like this some day. Check
your e-mail for a message.
Are there any meetings coming up at Aerodata? Speaking of meetings, are you
going to Siggraph? If you are, I will see you there.

PS: Say hello to Gloria and Sean for me.
Yes, we should have a meeting in July showing all the latest IPAS routines
including many of the Schreiber routines. I'll be at SIGGRAPH, yes. See you
sometime in July
Yes this is a good idea. It seems that with this flood of IPAS no body really
knows what is too get. I hopong to make it to SIGGRAPH, but our IPAS routines
are'nt selling too well. I hoping SIGGRAPH will pick up our sales since this is
I hav'nt had any animation jobs in since I under took this project of IPAS.
