I know that 3D Studio and Animator create animations using 256 colors but I am not sure if it is possible to create animations using 16 million colors. Jeffrey.

It is, either with third party Flic programs, or by rendering sequential single frames and recording them to tape for example.

Jeffrey, Today's PC have trouble playing 8-bit (256 color) flics as it is. 16-bit and 24 bit flics would increase frame size to a point that it will bring the PC to a grinding halt. However, there is still a lot you can do with the available Autodesk 8-bit standard. You might want to check out my flic compressor/player in lib 7 under NEWAGE.zip. Regards, Reza D.

Jeffrey, My program DTA (available in the lib) can create a variant form of flic with 24-bit color (.FLT files) or 16-bit color (.FLH files). As someone else mentioned, these files do get pretty big compared to .FLC files and play more slowly… but if there's not too much happening on the screen they can play acceptably fast. (.FLT and .FLH files aren't playable by most flic-viewers… you need my player, DFV, which is probably available in the lib .. if not, it can be found over in the GRAPHSUP forum, lib 11.) –dkm

I was also looking for a hicolor flic maker and viewer and found some on TGA bbs. they were HCPLAY and HCMAKE(zip) I think. I believe they converted targa 16 or 24 bit files into their own special flics. What made me immediatly abandon these programs was that the player itself would attempt to run the hicolor flics directly off the hard disk. Each individual frame looks great, but animated the flics were grossly choppy. Either I had the player configured wrong, or it just doesn't use RAM to play the flics (which seems very silly to me). I have 20 megs of RAM, and the flic I was playing was only about 2. So, I dunno. -s
