Hilite IPAS ?
6 messages in this thread
I have the #1 IPAS package and am using the hilite filter. What the client
wants is the hilite to start small at a specific point over the video, then
enlarge to take up the whole screen. As this happens, it would appear to be a
bright light from the center of the hilite that in essence is being used to
dissolve the screen to white to set up the next scene.
In playing around with the IPAS routine. I see that I can make any number of
offshoots for the hilite and control the size. But can't figure out how to make
them grow over time. Is this possible. One thought was to have the hilite key
off of a very small white star placed where I wanted the center to be, then
scale the star over say a scond or so. As the star grows, so will the hilites.
Sound right?
Also to enhance the bright light effect from the center of the hilite, maybe
include the glow feature to enhance the effect?
Any comments, suggestions greatly appreciated.

Try this. Render a frame with the hilight effect and one without. Dissolve
between them in Video Post and you'll see a lovely growing hilight effect.

I'll try this tonight. I have to admit, the whole video post usage is new to
me. I haven't come across the ability to dissolve between two sequences. I'll
have to read up on this process I quess. I have experimented with the flare
IPAS and it seems like it can generate similar images. Thanks for the input.

I remember a project a long, long, long time ago, with Release 1!, in which I
was making a cheap SVHS animation. We decided to make something really
spectacular but the work was really cheap, more a favor than a real work.
Lighting was the key to get that dramatic effect and make an animation with
just a few frames, just the way you say but doing it in realtime and with the
Targa+ blending. The work resulted so impressing and it was done in so little
time, that we got a bigger contract and then another one. When you don't have
the tools or the money, use your mind. It is free <g>
I guess you can say that lighting and that simple trick was the origin of KI 🙂

Paul, you could try rendering a single, large hilight on a black background.
Use this as an Opacity Map on a object of 2D faces, and you have a completely
manipulatable, mappable, materials-applyable hilight. Just animate, scale, etc.
the thing any way you wish.
Hope this helps,

Unique approach. I wound up not getting this job and saw what another prod. co.
did with it. They did what I originally described. With a highlight turning
into a bright light (like a haze effect) used as a transition into the next
scene. Looked good. I want to duplicate it so I don't lose out again.
Thanks for the idea.
