I'm curious about how much people are charging for 3D Studio renderings. What is the standard these days? Examples: – simple logos – character animation – complicated animated logos – particle systems – low quality – reflections – walk throughs – etc Thanks! -Dave

There are no real standard prices for any of this. Suffice it to say that the most basic work goes for $100 per finished second for professional work on BetaSP output. Check out the Yost IPAS Botique catalog for pricing examples for Wavefront ouput. Since I feel 3DS has better render quality than Wavefront, I would say these prices form a good basis. — James — MAP —

We try to average about $300 PFS on Beta SP. $100 barely keeps the doors open. – Doug Wolfgram/GRAFX, Written 15-Jun-1994 @ 15:22:43 Using: Windows NavCIS PRO 1.2

>> We try to average about $300 PFS on Beta SP. $100 barely keeps the doors open. << Thank you!! I can't imagine charging $100 PFS for anything and looking at myself in the mirror in the morning. But seriously folks…. It depends on the client and the area of the country. If you are in NY city then you may need even more than $300/. I have friends in the business charging $100 FPS and thoe charging >$1K per using the same equipment. It greatly depends on the client. Alot of people NEED to be charged alot to feel that they are getting their money's worth. In Palm Beach Fl where I live and work people won't buy if it's CHEEP! The money factor is a badge to wear on the chest…. Once you get up to speed and have a good product to sell… Don't under price yourself. Does that help answer your question? JM Davey Palm Beach, FL

>> Thank you!! I can't imagine charging $100 PFS for anything and looking at myself in the mirror in the morning. << Well, Doug said he needs $300 just to keep the doors open — and I believe him. I recommended $100 to Dave as a bare minimum. Personally, I _start_ at about $200 PFS and go up, and I need that to "keep the doors open". Someone else was asking for pricing on a technical project and I gave a lecture about the expenses and depreciation assocaited with an animation business. Animation is becoming less of a diamond market all of the time, but the prices stay up because of the overhead. — James — MAP —

I do rendering in house for $10 per machine hour. A machine hour is a 486/66 w/ 16megs. A 486/33 bills at $5 a machine hour. I have $100 min. Dumping to Hi-end BETA SP will run about $300 regardless of length if rendered here. Hope this helps Rob (212) 677-5000 x-215

Sorry to bump in… I am quoting a project, and I need pricing for putting two animations (5 sec. each) to a BEtacam SP. Thanks, D. Abarca
