#Just the fax, please

Does anyone here use a Bocafax modem? If so, why software do you use
that successfully employs the fax potential of this periferial?
I've not been able to get the copy of Terminus that came with the
modem to work on my 2500 with OS2.1 –keep getting the message that
I need a newer version of Terminus. It almost looks as though the
disk is bogus –I've never had that happen with a disk or program
except when I was attempting to unarchive something and it required
a newer version unzipper. Strange.

Terminus doesn't do fax.
Does the manual for the Bocafax indicate whether it is a Class 1 or Class
2 fax? If Class 1, get GPFax. If Class 2, choose from many commercial
(GPFax and TrapFax) and shareware fax software packages for the Amiga.

Dale,
The manual says I've got a class 1 fax/modem. I tried using a shareware
program for the class 2 type and it wouldn't work.
Are there any programs for the class 1 types? (Sure hope so.)
Vicki
GPFax does Class 1 and 2. As far as I know, that's the only one for Class
1, and you definately can't use a program for Class 2 with a Class 1
modem.

I know class 1 means the fax handshaking is done by the S/W and Class 2
means part of it is done by the modem firmware, but what does "Group 3"
mean? Anyone?

Tom,
Group 3 means that the fax machine is a Group 3 fax machine. This in
english means that the handshaking and speed is according to the Group 3
standard (most fax machines since the mid to late 80's have been group 3,
group 4 is ISDN2 fax capability and not so common outside Japan yet).
Hope this helps

Yes.. GPFax puts out a program that operates with Class 1 Fax modems.
It goes by the name GPFax and you can pick one up from Supra (or really
any software mail order/amiga dealer.. Be sure to specify that you have a
class 1 modem and that the version of GPFax that you are going to recieve
is v2.346 (this is the latest version). Earlier versions of GPFax had
quite a number of problems dealing with Class 1 modems (for one, and the
most frustrating, was not recognizing the modem when it was hooked up)..

I'm using GPFax with a USRobotics sportster modem, which is a class 1
modem. I also use the same modem with AutoPilot.

GPFax class 1 is available but not from Supra, Check some of the mail order
companies or Micro R&D (they distribute it).

Be sure to get the right version of GPFax..(class I)

Try temporarily resetting your system time back a few months and see if
Terminus will work.
I remember reading something about Jack (Radigan, Terminus' author) not
being able to get 2.0e out as soon as he expected, and 2.0d had somehow
"timed out"
Myself, I've got a registered, paid-up version, and it ran fine under 2.1
on my plain-vanilla 2000.
