I have a question I hope somone can shed some light onto. I am working with the OPTIMIZE IPAS off disk # 7. I am working with large 3ds files and wanted to shrink them to drop rending time and file size. I created a test to see what type of results I would achive. My first test file was a portion of my large 5 meg file, and the second was the optimized version of the same file. I opetimized the objects at around 10-13 on the angle setting. My results are so: File 1: Not optimized Size: 253,004 Rendering time: 13min File 2 Optimized Size 227,725 10% decrease Rending time: 21min. Is there a reason for this? Any suggesions would be great! Did you page to disk (swap) during the first render, Jonathan? Try re-booting between renders. -Alan Iglesias

No, I didn't page to disk. That's sothing I thought originally also, but the machine has 32 megs and I checked the system configuration after each redering. Thank for the suggesion.

As Alan said, it sounds like you're paging to disk the second time you render (but you mentioned that you don't think that's happening). Regardless, you've got something strange/anomalous going on in your system, and I wouldn't be able to comment on it without having your original file _here_ so I could reproduce what you're doing step-by-step. If you'd like to send me that original .3ds file, I'd give it a shot. – G

Thanks! I don't have the file on this system, but I'll work with it some more, and if I'm not successful I'll send it. Muchos Gracias!
