#Toaster 2 CG Colors

I can not seem to get my CG to render text in any other color other than blue
(even if I play with the slider settings). Is that indicative of a software
problem (I have the toaster 2.0 with 2.0 sw) or is it a problem associated with
the hardware? I just recently bought the toaster and do not know what is

Is this for all CG rendering or just rolls and crawls? If you have problems
with all CG color fills, I would say your problem is in the software/control
realm. If you're unable to fill rolls and crawls, this may well be hardware.
(Toaster/Amiga hardware provides the matte fill for these characters.) Your
first move should be to reseat the Toaster board in you Amiga.

Stephen, I experienced a similar problem, my Scroll and Crawl Pages were
magenta until I hooked up a monitor to the Amiga Video port (23 pin connector).
Since I was using a Flicker Free Video II, I had no need of the amiga's video
out, so I thought. Once I hooked up a (second) monitor to the video port, my
scroll and crawl pages were white, or whatever other color I wanted.
In the Toaster Manual I have (3.1/4000), in the troubleshooting section, it
says:
"If you have an Amiga 2000 or 3000
You must have EITHER an RGB monitor OR RGB terminator connected to the video
output connector for the Toaster's encoder to operate correctly. On the Amiga
2000, this connector is labeled VIDEO. On the Amiga 3000, it is labeled 15 KHz
– Video. If there is neither a terminator nor a monitor connected to this
port, the Toaster will not output proper video levels."
Note: the monitor must be turned on for this to work. Hope this helps.

Thanks. It seems, though, that my 1084 cable has problems. I fiddled around
and set the toaster software to the 3 monitor mode (I am only using 2,
however). When I toggle the 1084 to preview, the colors are OK. When I toggle
back to RGB, it is in monochrome! Strange, huh. I will try to do some more
detective work and see if I can track the problem down better. Thanks for the

PS – What is a flicker free video II. I used to have a 2320 Board until I got
my toaster. Now, of course, I can't use the video slot so I sold the board.
Does this gizmo plug in another slot? If it does, where can I get one? I use
pagestream and find the video output hard to deal with. Steve
Stephen, the Flicker Free Video II is a small circuit board that you plug into
the Motherboard of an A500 or A2000 which gives you a solid display free of
interlace flicker and visible scan lines. Works with most VGA monitors.
Doesn't take a video slot or an expansion slot. You just have to pull the
denise chip from the motherboard and install it onto the FFV board, then plug
the device into the denise socket on the motherboard. A ribbon cable connects
the device to a 9 pin RGB connector, which is mounted on an expansion slot
cover. It is made by ICD, who you can find in the Amiga User's forum,
(76004,1600) Their phone number is (815)-968-2228. Note: Installing this
device will void your warranty on the computer, not that that matters any more.
Hasn't blown my machine yet. 🙂
