#used 3D Studio
5 messages in this thread
To All,
I have come across a person who wants to sell a used 3D Studio. This brings up
several questions? Is it legal to buy used software? If so what is the
differences between the different versions, what is a fair price, and do I
need AutoCad to define objects before they are rendered?
Need Help!
Stuart
Stu… I just bought a copy of 3D Studio R1 from someone here on CServe, which
I upgraded to R3 for $500. It was unregistered so there were no problems on
that end. I bought Animator Pro 1.0 about 18 months ago again, here on CServe
and upgraded it to 1.3. It was previously registered. Autodesk software
licenses are transferable so the seller had to provide some sort of a receipt
saying that he was selling the software to me and we each had to fill out a
form from Autodesk…voila! Very easy. I'm sure that some companies have
different opinions about the reselling of software though. I've gotten into the
Autodesk family very inexpensively by hanging out here in this forum!

Brent,
So if you dont mind me asking, what did you pay for your version of 3D Studio?
Or what have you seen it go for? Thanks for your reply to the previous
message.

Stuart,
As far as Autodesk is concerned it is legal to buy ADESK software provided that
it is a legal copy and that you register your copy with Autodesk. You want to
be sure that its a legal copy because you will not be able to upgrade it
otherwise, (the primary reason for registering it in the first place.)
It would be take too much time to describe the difference between version R1,
R2 and R3. The changes have been very significant. I would suggest finding out
first if it is a legal registered copy and what version it is.
You don't need AutoCAD to define objects before they are rendered. 3DS has a
full blown modeler which works very nicely. Any specifics regarding upgrades
and legally registered copies should be addressed to your local Autodesk
dealer. He can tell you if its a legal copy and can also upgrade it for you
should you need to.
