Actually, no, I couldn't tell you were new at this. If you hadn't told me I
would never have known! Welcome to CIS!
You can use the fargo to print out "regular" documents with their monochrome
kit. I don't know if you need special paper for it either. Probably the paper I
mentioned yesterday is what you need to use.
Chris,
Thanks again.
I will keep their promotion flyer for a while and decide later.

PMJI, when I went to order the Fargo Primera, they told me the Primera Pro is
scheduled to begin shipping soon. It's 600×300 – ~$1500.

Eli,
Thanks. That is news to me.

When I read that, I went down to my local printer shop and they confirmed
what you said and they are going to sell it.
And they are also going to have a new Epson color printer which, they say is
an ink-jet with 720 dpi resolution (or double that of the Canon color ink-jet).
Thay even had a sample (clay coated paper is best) and I was impressed (but
then I am easily impressed <g>).
The list price is the same as the Canon color (about $600) but the price per
copy is the big difference, as you might imagine but I cannot quote figures.
Just a thought for anyone who does not require dye-sub.

Is that for the full dye sub?
Is that a hardware upgrade? software driver ? hole new unit or what?
regards, Peter Kroko
Peter,
PMJI, but I called the folks at FARGO today and the sales rep said that the
Primera Pro is a whole new machine with new drivers. He said that the ribbons
and paper would be the same as the original Primera. Unfortunately, he could
not be very specific regarding an upgrade program from Primera to Primera Pro.
Bummer!!
Regards,
Frank (with a still-wet-behind-the-ears Primera dye-sub)
P.S. I saw some of your images earlier this year… very, very excellent work!
Consider me a humble disciple.
I heard the Fargo's dye-sub upgrade is simply new drivers… is this
true? (Sort of like the performance chip for a car that simply reduces your
mileage… heh).
Peter,
I think Frank's response pretty much sums it up. But, if you have further
questions, try contacting FARGO at 800-258-2974.
