#Matrox MGA Questions…
8 messages in this thread
I'm about to buy a Matrox MGA series adapter and have a few questions,
1. Anyone have good -OR-r bad experiences w/ the VLB versions? I see they're
supported by the new drivers
2. At $999 SRP for either the 4MB Ultima VLB or the 3MB Impression (which
seems to have some cool 3D shading stuff should you add DRAM), anyone have
opinions on which is the best for a 3DS and Windows user?
3. Other than the ATI Graphics Turbo (incompatible w/ my system), what other
adapters should I consider?
Thanks,

Brian,
buy the Impression, if you want to use interactive preview etc. in 3DS. I have
Impression PRO (4.5MB VRAM/4MB DRAM) and this board is perfect for 3DS/Windows.
Impression 3Z is also very good.

Pavel,
Could you tell me more about the interactive preview stuff you mentioned to
Brian…I have the Impression with Z-buffer and have been trying to figure out
how to make the best use of it with 3ds3.
I saw very cool walkthrough demos of the board with Autocad using Dynaview and
I am hoping I can get something like this with 3ds. Any hints and help would
be appreciated.
Mike,
at the time present, I am working on two IPAS modules. First is the realtime
hardware assisted shading for 3D Editor. With this IPAS (now in the beta) is
possible to view your scene, rotate, zoom camera, move camera and target etc.
Second IPAS (under development) will be possible to make previews, save them in
the FLIC and TGA formats etc.
SANDRA (name of the first IPAS) is similar to DynaView, but the user interface
is different.
PavelK
Pavel,

etc.<<
will we see your exciting IPAS routine at Siggraph? I hope so!
>will we see your exciting IPAS routine at Siggraph? I hope so! :-(( SIGGRAPH
is too far for me. But you can see my on several fairs. A/E/C Systems, Summer
Consumer Electronic Show and PC Expo. Look at the Matrox stand.
PavelK
Pavel,
I don't go to many "fairs" either. Usually I only have time and money to go to
Siggraph, NAB (National Association of Broadcasters), and Winter Consumer
Electronics Show. If the ones you mentioned are local to me then I would take
the time to go.
Martin,
A/E/C is in Washington June 20-23 Summer Consumer Electronics Show in Chicago –
June 23-25 PC Expo is in New York City – June 28-30
