Please, please help me. I don't know if I'm in the right area so please bear
with me. I just joined compuserve a few days ago. A friend of mind has an
Amiga system and asked me to get help. Here goes:
They have an Amiga 500 System – Workbench upgraded 1.3 1 meg Ram
Robotics 14,400 modem Sportsters model Has Software # Tele. Commn
Access COM V1.34 JR COMM & Handshake? Workbench 004 shareware from DEVWARE
also Workbench 102 Tele. Comm. NCOMM VT100 ——Problem is
modem dials out but keeps getting a "No Carrier Signal" from modem.
Is there not enough space on workbench? Modem maybe needs special programming?
If so, how? Please help!! They are driving me crazy! Mo
You might get more help from the Communications area in Amiga User Forum,
but I'll hazard a few guesses.
If you are getting the message "NO CARRIER" from the modem, then your
modem is not getting a reply that it can use from the other end of the
telephone line. It isn't a Workbench problem, and it sounds as if your
comms software is talking to the modem OK.
Does your modem have a loudspeaker? If so, turn it up and see what noises
you get. NO CARRIER usualy means one of 3 things:
1. There was no answer
2. The phone was answered by a person
3. Your modem and the other modem could not agree on settings.
If you hear a few whistles before the modem hangs up it was probably
problem no. 3 and you need to find out what settings the modem at the
other end uses.

First, let me say thank you for answering me. You are the first since I've
joined the CP 4 days ago. I will forward your answers on the Amiga problem as
soon as I leave the Forum. How exciting it is to talk to someone as last and
from London, England to boot. Thank you so much.

4. Make sure the phone line is connected. Check that the cable is
connected on both ends, that its not in the wrong connector on the
modem and that the voice/data switch is set for data.
If his modem has a speaker, turn it on, and he should hear the phone ring
after the number is dialed. I have a phone line switch and when I forget
its off I can get "No Carrier" from my modem.
