I have a video sequence pulled into the par that I want to use as a backdrop, with transparent text, and text with dropshadows that are to fall on the video. I know that I can put in a backdrop in 3D, and map the video onto the backdrop, but would rather use VP if possible. (that way I don't have to worry about cropping off edges, changing the lighting, or self illumination/dropshadow type madness. I made an ifl, and went into VP, used the ifl as bg, with keyframer as the top layer. When I test rendered it, I got transparent text, but no dropshadow. I know that there needs to be a plane behind the text to catch the dropshadow, but am not sure how to make it catch the shadow, but still allow the video to be put underneith. Typestry lets you set up a background, and make it catch shadows, making them in the alpha channel, but I'm not sure if this is possible, or just a trick I haven't figured out yet. I know that I can do it another way, but am kinda wanting to figure it out this way. 🙂 Could be useful down the road. I've considered making the background a keyable color, but then the dropshadows won't be accurate on the video. Any ideas, or am I just a glutton for punishment? 🙂 thanks all, JNJ

>>but would rather use VP if possible. (that way I don't have to worry about cropping off edges, I've done this often and have, so far, found the simple way is to just use the safe frame and create a rectangle object that you map the IFL to with the video sequence in in the PAR. I use an Omni light rather than turn on self illumination. I size the rectangle to the outside box of the safe frame. I have always obtained satisfactory results with the shadows and even auto reflection maps with this technique.

Thanks Don, I'll probably go this way. It's worked with regular texturemaps, so should be good with ifl's as well. 🙂 JNJ
