#PAR MCI Drivers REAL?

Has anyone used the PARVCR (MCI driver) for the PAR board? I can't find the
"latest version" on the DPS bulletin board…heard that it didn't work but that
a "working version" exists and should be on the board. I'm primarily interested
in playing audio with the animation-can only play the animation with the
version I have now. The drivers applet displays a place to enter an associated
audio file-but you can't enter anything-all you can do is click OK or Cancel.
Is the driver real or just a bunch of smoke?

Quite real actually. The ability to link a sound file to a PAR animation has
been around for some time now, but recently I pulled the new drivers off the
DPS BBS and it included a cool utility called PARVCR. At first I couldn't get
this thing to work, but after reinstalling it, it works like a dream !! You
can capture you live video into the PAR and your Audio onto the system drive
all sync'd up and ready to go.
It is possible that you need to have RP's software installed, I have it
so I don't know if it runs without it. Also I assume you have the updated chip
from DPS on your PAR board ?

What is the deal with this updated chip? We bought our par board in January or
so. Do I need to get this upgrade?
Also, could you remind me where you got this RP software for incorporating
sound, please?

To determine if you need the update, look at the back of your PAR board – if
"VX" is in the serial number, you don't need the chip.

The back plate of my PAR doesn't have a serial number. What is the upgraded
chip for? I bought my PAR when they first came out.

The PAR serial # is not on the back plate, but on the back side of the
circuit board (which requires a look inside the machine). Anyway, if you
purchased an early board, it will not have the VX chip. This chip allows small
scaled-down images to transfer across the bus for use by editing programs.
Razor Pro is the only package currently using this feature.

Thanks for the reply. I couldn't find the PARVCR driver (applet) on the the
DPS bulletin board, but I was able to find and download via the new FTP
site-works great. This is, for now, exactly what I needed-to be able to play
synced audio with my animation. I'm not using RP right now-am watching with
intense interest what happens with the product as it arrives to NT. I'm
running multiple systems, and really enjoy the capabilities of NT.
Interestingly, it speeds up true 32 bit applications-at least the ones that
matter to me. In addition to 3DS and Animation Master, I'm running the
pre-release of Lightwave 3D-which runs better and about 40% faster under NT.
I've seen that the new version of RP will not create a new file if you are
simply doing cuts only. If this is so-I'll head that direction. By the way, I
don't know if I have the "updated chip" on the DPS PAR board- I purchased it at
the end of march-and it was a fresh shipment form DPS. All I know is-it works
great and looks really good. If I don't get bit by the overheat problem…I'm
very pleased.

Sounds like you have everything you need. I bouhgt my PAR last year so
I needed to do the upgrade.

The FTP address I have for DPS is:

I belive that the PAR chip you need is available through a In-Sync (Razor Pro)
dealer. You can give them a call for a dealer in your area. If you need any
