#Moving to B.C.

Hi Ashok,
I'm Mark from Montreal, soon to be Mark in B.C., the weather sucks here in
Montreal, most of the time, and our language problems are getting worse, with
the inpending of the break up of our province, from the rest of Canada. What
can I say, I have an uncle in B.C. and he says the rest of Canada, is fed up
with our petty little language problems. I agree with him. Well, Alberta eh?,
how do you like the weather out there ? I'll be passing thru there in a few
months, looking forward to it, anyway, take care, and thanks for the info for
files on the internet.

Ha… the ever changing weather in Alberta. Especially in Edmonton, however we
are having pretty good weather now, and in winter I think the weather was OK. I
was away most of the time in India.
The French language is very inconvenient. I mean it's spoken only in a few
areas of the world – France, Quebec, Haiti, and some French colonies. With the
decreasing pop. in these areas, the French language will be non existent in a
couple of hundred years.
I hope you like B.C.. Alberta has sort of a rivalry between B.C. because many
are moving from here because of the recent cuts. By the way, where in B.C. are
you moving? Victoria is a great city.

don't know exactly, my sister just came back from Japan, where she lived, and
she is moving to Vancouver also, I'm going in the second week of Aug. as for
where, we are not sure yet, … god the rents in B.C. are 3 times that of
Quebec. Oh well, anyway, nice chatting.

Yes a foreign language is very "inconvenient" if you don't understand it. When
someone speaks in French you probably don't have a clue what they are saying,
so it can be very frustrating. I know I've been there.
But have you ever thought what it is to be a French person when someone speaks
to them in English? For them it is also very "inconvenient" since English is as
*foreign* to them as French is to you. It is difficult and takes many years to
become proficient in English.
Learning any foreign language is a difficult task yet English people, not only
think but they EXPECT French people to speak English, as though it was an
obligation. But how many people take the time or even consider learning someone
else's language. If you came to France would you take the time to study French
so that you can speak and talk to the locals? I hope you would since you'd get
a lot more from your visit.
To say that any language should be obliterated because it "ain't" English shows
that you have never taken the time to learn another language and all that goes
with it. There is a history and culture there that you can't experience without
fully understanding.
I personally think it a very important that countries hold onto their heritage,
customs and most importantly their language, since this is what makes the world
such an interesting place. The French language is even more so renowned for
it's poetic and refined characteristics. This is something that English is
possibly lacking but English comes in so many different varieties.
Take the time to learn another language and you'll be able to relate to what
I'm saying otherwise, as they say in America "Have a nice day!"
