#batch render help?

Can anyone help me with a soppy question regarding batch rendering, please? If I have a 3DS4 project with 2 or more camera views set up for keyframer animation, is there any way I can override the "view" used during animation? I can't seem to find a command line parameter to do this. Surely I don't have to save the project each time with a different window active to achieve this, do I? Also, can I switch between different Camera views during flic creation? Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanx in advance, Scott (3ds4 Novice) Reynolds.

<<Surely I don't have to save the project each time with a different window active to achieve this, do I?>> Guess what. :-(. There was a long thread on this very issue re: how handy it would be to have a switch that would let you select viewport/camera view when command-line/batch rendering. No such switch exists, and there is about a snowball's chance in hell (IMHO) that one will be written in the future, because Adesk would really like for everyone to network render, and forget batch rendering altogether. I haven't reviewed this problem in a while (having become resigned to "saving the project each time with a different window active" – but if you are ONLY interested in rendering different camera views (and not "front", "top" etc.), I think you can do it with a "vue" file. See the advanced users guide. It probably won't do any good, but it might be nice if you forwarded a copy of your posting to Jonas in the "wishes" section … just so they know batch rendering has one more fan. Thanx Gayle. Seems like he's seen the request already. It warms the cockles of my heart to find kindred (and presumably not Autodesk-employed) spirits out there, especially given the ridiculous situation I have of not being able to speak to AD personnel directly in England. BTW what's SAVANTES? Company name or place? My thanx to all who replied on this thread – and so quickly too!

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. SAVANTES is a company name, science education; I also freelance as Cajal Medical Illustration.

Scott: The simplest way to achieve your goal is to use Network Rendering EVEN IF YOU HAVE NO NETWORK! Sorry for the all caps but using a single machine to queue up (or batch process if you will) rendering jobs is easy and will allow you to swap cameras in mid stream. Put one entry into the net-queue for each camera view and render to sequential .tga files. Put in a final entry into the net-queue which renders an .ifl file of all of your rendered .tga files and direct that queue entry to render to a flic file. Bob
