#The PAR and Aspect Ratio
4 messages in this thread
I've been having some trouble with the technical areas of aspect ratios in
regard to the PAR's requirements.
I use a 512×486 with an aspect ratio of 1.23 with my targa. This setup with
the PAR is not wide enough. The PAR manual says that It (The PAR board) will
append the 756×480 resolution to the image. So I made the image @ 756×480 with
an aspect ratio of 1.0. This looks the closest to correct but a consideral
amount of my image is lost off the screen. Even less than what is guestimated
by the safe frame feature in 3DS.
My first question is "what is the correct resolution and aspect ratio to use
with the PAR?"
Secondly, I thought I could use my regular old VHS deck to make myself some
demos for distrubution, but I cannot seem to record to it. I am using the NTSC
output from the PAR through a converter to RCA into my VHS. The monitor is
displaying at the same time using a S-video jack. Any suggestions?
Thanks, NDC
Neil
I thought I had seen an answer to your question, but it was flagged as not
having been answered, to I'll give it a shot.
The only valid aspect ratio for PAR output to NTSC is 0.851.
When recording from the PAR to VHS you should not go through any converters,
the PAR is the converter. Did I understand that one or are you talking about a
cable adapter?
Hope that helps.

Hi,
I thought its 0.833. I might be wrong.

Kouros,
I'm pretty sure it's 0.851, but I doubt if the difference would be noticable
in most cases.
Thanks
