#arcs…ACAD->3DS help!
5 messages in this thread
Hi,
Got a modeling question.
Suppose you want to model an arched doorway, and LOTS of arched windows
I have a great looking elevation in autocad, that dxf's nice into the shaper.
the problem:
a great arc in autocad is a pain in the butt in 3ds.
If I push the step up I get great arcs but lots of verti on the straight lines.
I can refine the arc segments, but even with a reasonable snap setting
hitting the arc is hard. And when you have lots of arcs to do….argh…
Does anybody do anything to make this process easier?
Does breaking the arc up in autocad help?
Is there a secret in the shaper for refining arcs without refining lines?
Thanks in Advance
Todd
When you loft your arch with Optimize turned on the Lofter, the vertices are
generated for the curved portion of the shape but not for the straight lines.
Does this help?

hi again,
Yes optimize works when going thru the lofter.
I was running into problems with
editor
create/object/get shape
which I always had left to 'shape detail' 'high'
always helps to dig the book out from the pile
thanks again
Todd
If you need to use Get Shape, here's one way to work it. In the Shaper, create
an arch shape with a semi-circle and straight sides. Now, turn Steps down to 0,
and then use Modify/Segments/Refine and click in the curved segments until you
have enough vertices for a smooth curve. Finally, use Create/Object/Get Shape
in the Editor with Shape Detail set Low. This method lets you specify only
those vertices you want for your curves.
