As I review the CDK brochure, it mentions solid modeling and AutoCad a few places. It even has a built in solid modeling package…, I wonder if it is ACIS, just like AutoCAD? I am curious as to the importance of solid modeling and autoCAD to virtual reality simulation? Is it reasonable to expect 3DS and AutoCAD boudary be blurred in the virtaul reality modeling? Thanks. CDK solid modeling is based on Constructive Solid Geometry, and as far as I know… the new release CDK R2 is not based on the ACIS kernal. I use ACAD R13, 3DS R4, and CDK R2… my advice is to stick with the Autocad's "Designer" solid modeling package to perform feature based "parametric" modeling. Use CDK as a tool to interact and manipulate models that were created with Designer. Solid models can have mass, gravity terms, damping, spring, air flow, friction, etc.. in CDK. CDK R2 can import DXF and 3DS files in applications. A nice feature is the ability to bring in 3DS files that have animation sequences, and then play them with real-time rendering…. while changing your viewpoint. As a mechanical engineer, I view CDK as a tool that will allow me to build applications that can give a company radical improvments in productivity over the traditional productivity enhancements in new Autocad releases. The first companies to successfully hire and implement programmers and engineers to develop CDK applications… will be far ahead of their competitors who are working only with Autocad.

Kerwin, Thanks for your help. Now I see the significance of Solid modeling… Mei-Tien
