I would like to see a simple feature like a mutiple undo to 3ds R5 or maybe a form of unlimited undo. I really hate having to hold and fetch. I would also like many more procedural textures similar to or better then the product Imagine from Impulse as of now they have the best mathmatical textures on a PC Just wanted to let you know dispite the undo problem I have almost all the IPASES there are and still enjoy 3ds 4. But I totally agree with the article in Computer Graphics World. The article mentioned 3ds was a hodge podge I hope 3ds5 is a whole new creating/modeling/problem solving interface unlike 3ds4 P.S If you could post more information regarding 3ds5 I would be very greatful. As I am building my life long dream of creating artwork for games with it. Thanks for your time.

I'm sorry that we can't be more open about what r5 is, but I promise to be very open with you at Siggraph (if you can make it to LA in August). If you can't make it to Siggraph, we'll be able to answer more questions about in on Compuserve after the show. – G

Gee… I can't tell you. But it sure was a popular item on the zillions of wishlists that we compiled. – G

Gary, I always wondered, why the secrecy over features. The other graphics companies I've talked to have been rather open about upcoming features. Just curious, – Ron

Hi Ronald, << I always wondered, why the secrecy over features. >> In this case it's an Autodesk corporate policy. jonas[adesk]

Obviously to keep potential competitors in the dark right

You don't have long to wait before we starting talking about features. (about 60 days, actually) Remember, this product isn't shipping until winter, so it's still quite a ways off. Autodesk has some very valid reasons for keeping the competition in the dark until Siggraph. (Do you think that only 3DS users frequent ASOFT?) – G

>> Autodesk has some very valid reasons for keeping the competition in the dark until Siggraph. (Do you think that only 3DS users frequent ASOFT?) Really…? And here I thought we had to punch in our serial numbers, social security numbers and mother's maiden name to gain access! <bg> Seriously, though – some of the features that will be unique to 3DS, I would think should be a fairly tight secret. However, there are a lot of features (like better booleans, CAD accuracy, Magnet type strecthing) that most of the higher level competition already has. Jusst out of curiosity, is it a matter of not giving the compteition ideas, or do you feel it's better to not let the competition know just what 3DS is capable of until it's late in the game, even if they have the same features? Just thought I'd ask…

Well, one, is the competition. Two, is look what happened when Adesk announced that they were working on a patch modeler for r4, but then were unable to include it in the shipping product — everyone screamed bloody murder. Dave

True… promise nothing, deliver greatness, and you'll be adored. Promise the moon, and deliever only greatness, and you'll be reproached.

Gary, << I promise to be very open with you at Siggraph >> Please don't forget about uploading some r5 screen grabs after Siggraph. Mark
