#IK Problem
4 messages in this thread
A couple of months ago I sent you an IK problem I was having. I know you guys
are probably pretty busy, particularly with Siggraph coming up, but this is
just a gentle reminder that I really would like you to at least take a look at
it and see if it's something real obvious that I'm doing wrong (my own
particular take is that there is a bug in the way IK works with keys on every
frame, but I'm probably crazy).
Thanks for the reminder. We shouldn't be so busy that a couple of months could
go by without a word to let you know. Just in case we need a reminder, just
what is the problem? (I'm at home and can't confirm we're still working on
your problem.)
Thanks for your great patience.

I sent a ZIP file (I think it was called JONAS.ZIP) that Anne moved to the
appropriate area. I assume it's still around, and it had a text file that
described my problem.
Basically I could not get IK to work properly on that enclosed .3DS file. I
had generated the file with a script I wrote that did automatic walking, but no
matter what I tried I couldn't get both legs to IK properly (one would work and
the other would wobble like Deputy Chester). Although the follow objects
"walked" perfectly, it seemed to me that the only difference between this and
my experiences with IK that worked was that in my file there were keys on every
frame (due to how my script calculates the walking movement).
I appreciate the courtesy about the time — if it had been extremely urgent I
would have complained more, but with 3DS there's just so much to learn
(always!) that I've just busied myself with other areas (learning Key Factory,
for example). If only I was retired!
Mike,
Your file is still there, dated 4/21 – you have extreme patience!
Thanks. I will download this today (and hopefully it will be Jonas
who takes a look at it, judging from the file description). Jonas is
extremely good about letting people know when he receives things and
he should see it tomorrow in his "in basket" off line. (Actually, I
have discovered a glitch with our Tracker and won't be able to have
the file made visible today, that's why Jonas will get it tomorrow.)
Or, the way our Tracker works, it could be someone else who sees it
first and gives your problem a go.
