#Dual Processor Boards
4 messages in this thread
I'm getting ready to buy a new Pentium system and am intrigued by the
possibility of getting better rendering performance from a dual processor
machine.
Does 3DS support or utilize machines so equipped?

No current versions of 3DS do not use dual processors.
It has been announced that the next release will be written for WinNT, which
does support dual processors. There is NO news that says the WinNT version of
3DS will support multiple processors, but at least a few on this forum are
mother boards which allow for the second processor. The price is only 2-3
hundred dollars more and some NT software does use both processors, so it's not
a bad gamble, IMHO.

As a matter of fact, asside from what Ted said, I did an install for a
client of mine on an HP Dual Pentium and 3DS refused to run until we
removed one of the two processors.
My advice, get the board with one processor now and wait for the NT
version to see what's next.

But then, why would I want to subject myself to NT?
Isn't it bad enough just trying to get productive work done in the already
hopelessly intricate and capricious environment that is the world of graphics &
animation, as it is today? …he half jests.
