#Inside 3D Studio 4

Greg,
How do I purchase the book "Inside 3D Studio 4"? Does this book go into the
inner workings of 3D Studio? I'm interested in comparing the algorithms used
in 3D Studio to that used by a traditional architectural renderer and rules of
photography.
Thanks,

Any major bookstore should have it! Or direct from New Riders Publishing.
Greg Pyros
Greg,
Do you have a phone number for New Rider Publishing?
Thanks

Can I get the infamous "3ds Effects Book" from that source Steven,
its hell to try and get hold of a copy in the UK. Inside 3D's is a
real treat and I recommend anyone who owns 3D's and has finished the
Tut's to go on to it, It explain many things the 3D's manuals
missed.
Greg
Greg,
Sorry to interrupt, thought I could help on finding the book. I bought a copy
of '3DS Special Effects' by NRP from Dillions Bookstore in Charing Cross London
a month ago, perhaps a local Dillons can get one for you? It's worth the hunt
🙂
Regards,
Kieron (UK)
Tada!
I have a local Dillons and I'll head there Tommorrow for a copy
Thanx Greg 🙂
No problem I hope they have it, by the way have you seen any other 3DS books in
the UK other than 'Inside 3DS' and '3DS Special effects'?
Cheers,
Kieron.
Some on has told me about a book called "Tips and Tricks for 3D's" but I have
never seen it, I believe Digimation have a set of Vid's on how to use it as
well
Greg
Greg,
I've found a contact for Digimation in the UK where you can get about 12
books!!!! Some are smaller workbooks specific to certain modules but useful
stuff anyhow. If your interested I can post it to you here or by mail.
BTW what sort of stuff do you do?
Regards,
Kieron.
Yes Please, Its hell to get through to Digi' on the states,
My Address is 100530,232 . Oh and I'm an avid 3D's R4, LenZFX and IPAS 6
User!
Greg 🙂
whereabout in the UK have you tried ?… I live on the south coast
and locally to me I have seen 3DSFX book in Waterstones & Dillons
bookshops, also you know the name of the book and its publiser, &
author ? any "Good" bookshop or even WH Smiths can order it for you
using this information, nowdays even small bookshops over here have a
regular CD Booklist or two supplied each month with all the books
they can order, but to be abolutely certain you should find a large
bookstore in you nearest city who stocks macmillan publications they
will be able to get hold of it a little faster, usually within 1
Week, assuming the book is in print !…. I know that this timescale
is correct as my inside 3DS book had to be ordered 3 times cos the
first 3 times the CD in the back had massive scratches across its
surface !…. Whatch out for that by the way !…. If you ask any
big bookstore to order it and you dont live locally they can always
arange delivery (at a small extra cost of course <G> ) Hope this
helps you get your book david
You can always order it directly from Digimation in USA – Phone 5044687898
Funney that I have to phone them tommorrow about Luminere so perhaps I can tag
on a order for the "Book".
Mind you trying to remeber what time it is in the states is bit of a windup,
with three time zones LOL,
I'll probably give up and E-mail them.
Matt 🙂
Thanks for the kind words Greg,
You should be able to order any Macmillan book that is still in print using
the 800 number and possibly online as well.
Rather than saying the 3DS manuals missed anything, I prefer to think that
"Inside 3DS" delivered additional information that the manuals didn't have
the luxury of covering.
Steven
Autodesk could have made more Pages LOL,
The manuals for 3D's are very good, But the Manual for LensFX is Brillaint, I
was up and running in minutes. If only all IPAS manuals were that good sigh…
Greg 🙂
STEVEN D. ELLIOTT!!!!!!!
Sorry just checked the Manual and ITS YOU! LOL.
Thanks for the Manual, ermm… whats the differnce between R3 and R4 manuals, I
have 3, but use R4.
Why did I say the "Inside" manual was brilliant, lots of reasons but
one that means alot to me, Mapping decal labels in Animator, and being able
to mapp onto 3D meshes exactly, Check out my Star Trek ships in the Sci-Fi
forum, all were mapped using this method, and as far as I know the 3D's
manuals never covered this at all so I would have never have known this amazing
time saver.
Will you ever cover LensFX tricks in the Inside manuals or is this
under the Effects Book?
Matt 🙂
Hi Greg,
Release 4 of 3D Studio added another manual to the set called "New Features".
This roughly 250 page document document covers all of the changes from R3 to
R4. If you're using R4 at work or school they should have the manual
somewhere.
I'm glad you found "Inside 3DS" useful. It's always nice to hear how people
put the information to use.
Thanks,
Steven
Yes I have the extra Manual, but waht is the difference between "Inside" for 3
and 4 I have 3.
Are you writing a manual for R5 of 3D's yet?
And what is the Autodesk University, is it only for Autocad users?
Greg 🙂
Greg,
"Inside 3D Studio R4" adds about 200 pages the first "Inside" edition. We
rewrote and clarified passages throughout the book as well as covered the new
features in R4. One of the best new sections in the book covers the Keyscript
language. It was written by Phillip Miller with some excellent programing
examples by Jonas Ruikis.
