So, assuming there is going to be a 3DS party at this year's Siggraph, and assuming that I get an invitation again this year (and assuming I'm going) just when would I have to be there? I realize it runs from Sunday to Friday, but I was thinking that two days is probably plenty (maybe more than plentry) and it would be nice to know just which two days…

>> I was thinking that two days is probably plenty… I guess you've never been to Siggraph before. <g> Nothing has been officially announced about this year's Autodesk party. FWIW last year's party was on the Wednesday. Keep in mind for your planning that the exhibits are open Tuesday through Thursday. – Dave

>I guess you've never been to Siggraph before You got it, and I'm open to all suggestions. Are you saying there is more to see/do at Siggraph than most normal trade shows? I mean, I saw all I wanted to see of Comdex in two days, and that's a hell of a lot bigger. Now, granted, there will be more of what I like here (namely, graphics) but it's still hard for me to believe I can't see everything in two days (I have the exhibits and registration pass). What would you recommend?

>> What would you recommend? Last year was my first Siggraph. I signed up for the full conference, which was probably a bit too much. I strongly recommend the Courses — full of good stuff from industry experts. As for the exhibits and other stuff, whew, expect complete sensory overload. In two days, you will see plenty of good stuff, but will be too burned out to get a lot out of it. (…my experience) I found myself constantly drawn to the Screening Room (animations) and The Edge (new technologies) when I wasn't looking for familiar names around the Autodesk booth. On the show floor, I got some great buys, and enough new product literature to keep me busy for 2 months. Oh yeah, I saw Disney World, too. No big deal in comparison to the show. And last… the parties, parties and parties… – Dave

Mike: Last year was my first SIGGRAPH and I'm gonna go with Dave Marks' take on the whole affair. The courses were great and the trade show floor was perusable in two days but if you want to investigate anything in depth you'll want some more time. The show is very crowded and just finding a particular booth can kill an afternoon <G>. Sensory overload is most probable. I would write down a list of the particular stuff you want to see on the show floor and make sure you cover it, I found the sidetracks and distractions kept me from seeing a few products of interest. One could spend a day or two just in the Screening Room alone. I hope I can make it out there I'm getting all revved up. Bob

I remember going to the one in Anahiem in 93, and after I lined up and got my pass, I must've stood paralyzed for ten-fifteen minutes not even knowing where to start.

>> I hope I can make it << ?!!??!!! Hope??? You're not gonna let a little thing like your wedding interfere, are ya? <g>

Wade: Oh yeah, the wedding <G>, actually its more project schedule and money that I have to work around. I should know by week's end if I can go. Bob

Uh Bob?? You will know by week's end if you can go to your own wedding? Wanna give me the bride's phone number so I can call her now and let her know what she's getting into? <G> Anne

Don't quote me Mike, but I think I've heard that the Adesk party is on Tuesday night. Kathy Clinton could verify that. FYI, the ASOFT party will be on Sunday night at the Biltmore. It would be nice if you could make it. -Alan

The party is going to be on Tuesday night at the Biltmore hotel. Invites will be sent out in the first half of July (as usual). See ya there! – G
