#Frame Differencing FLCs

At present we produce all our animation work on Macs. We are able to produce
a kind of full screen (640×480) animation for display on the computer by
creative use of the "Frame Differenced" PICS file format. For the
uninitiated or dedicated PC user this format is basically equivalent to FLC.
We would like to be able to play our movies on the PC. There is a Mac product
called DeBabelizer which purports to convert from PICS to FLC but which
actually removes the frame differencing, creating enormous FLC files which play
very badly on all but the fastest machines. My questions are:
Is there a utility which creates frame differenced FLC files from a sequence of
individual full frames? Alternatively, can I do this using Animator Pro or
Animator Studio?
Is Animator Studio likely to be on show at the Multimedia 95 show in London
this week?

Try using Animator Pro's one palette command and then saving the flic again, It
may go down in size significantly, and have the delta information added. Also
if you want small flics you've got to check out SMACKER from RAD Software in
Salt Lake City, Utah. They compress FLCS down to 1/4 the size.

Animator Studio should also do the same job as the above. It might seem like
overkill however, to convert them into 24 bit and then back to 8 bit.

yeah, Paul, there sure is. in Palette dialogues, an option "One Palette" takes
a pixel census of the flic and, provided "FIT" toggle is on, creates a single
palette for the entire flic. take note… color degredation on all frames
occurs since 256 colors are used for all frames.

not sure, but AStudio's been out for a while. if Adesk Multimedia has any
presence there… i'd be surprised if they didn't have it for show. it's a hot
ticket right now. -dave
