#Bones VS Skin
5 messages in this thread
To All,
I need to redo a 30 second spot of a character animation that I originally did
as just a complex 3D model and animated joint by joint. Should I buy Bones Pro
or Skin or put my checking account on a diet and go "Skin and bones"?
Any help is appreciated,
Jimbo

Hey, dude, I've got both Bones Pro, and Skin.
According to your situation, I would suggest getting Bones Pro. It's the best
out there for Character animation, and bunch of other cool stuff. And you can
learn it in minutes.
Skin is great too, but it takes much longer to learn, and many of its purposes
are not to animate, but creating meshes. So if you want to focus on animation,
check out Bones Pro, it came with Smooth, which will join your seperate meshes
seamlessly.

I think that Bones Pro is better than Skin and more easy to use ….. buy it
!!!!!

I use both Bones and Skin. We use Bones is primarily for all are character
animation stuff and Skin we use for objects that need to have really smooth
surfaces that would usually have really hugh vertices counts such has tires for
car or motorcylce, or terrain.

What's up, Jim…
Bones Pro is great if you have a complex model made of one piece and
you want to animate it. Skin is like nurbes modelling, it uses the vertices as
a guide to wrap the skin around. The model you make with skin can be cut to
segments and you can animate each segment in the keyframer. Skin will create
the 'skin' and conform it to the animated slices. It's great for things as
simple as snakes and hoses to animating jaw structure, muscle bulges and facial
construction. Skin, however, has some pretty bad flaws. It will only wrap
around either the length of width of the object you create so you can't make,
say, a sphere with it and then distort it.
I haven't personally used Bones Pro but it sounds like something to
get, especially with the smooth IPAS as well.
I hope that helps you.
Take it easy,
