#Convert to Quads
3 messages in this thread
Is there an IPAS module that will convert mesh files to objects with 4 sided
polygons (quads). This is a requirement for the new game platforms, Sega,
Sony,
3DO, … We have written our own utility that handles 3DS files, but I want
a better way. The only packages that handle this function that I know of are
Softimage and Wavefront. We want a PC solution for game development.
Let me know,

I know of a few IPAS routines that game developers have written to do this, but
so far everyone's kept them proprietary (gee… I guess that there's some
competition in the game business :). It's actually pretty trivial to do… you
could even write a PXP script in TSE that would do it.

Well we have the IPAS dev kit and have talked about converting our tool
to it, but didn't want to spend the time. I was hoping for something like
Softimage's Reduction/ Quadify tool. It is similar to your IPAS Optimize
but with a lot more variables to tweak (max angle, surface area, …)
Maybe you should update the Optimize IPAS and add some features.
As you can tell the game business is getting pretty hot 🙂
Thanks for the info,
Jeff
