#AniStudio & #9GXE?
17 messages in this thread
I'm considering purchasing Animator Studio. Will it run in the 24bit color mode
with the #9GXE ( 3meg,PCI buss) video card? I hear of people having to run in
standard VGA mode to get it to work. The last driver #9 wrote was v 4.15 (
almost a year ago). I'd hate to have to buy a new card in addition to the new
product though it might be worth it.

I think it will run OK. I use it with several different cards (Diamond
Speedstar Pro, and Viper. Video7, Imagine 128, and others. I have it on a P90
with a number 9 and it works ( with occasional crashes )

Occasional?!! Is that a GXE model card?
Thanks for the help.

QA has a bug against the GXE/Pro – pretty much as you describe. I'd be
apprehensive about the GXE, even though there are no bugs against it. There is
a money back guarantee for AAStudio, however. Since I've used the product I
know that I'd want to try it out. But 16 colors?… Whew.
Perhaps ask the #9 folks if the Pro problems are likely to affect the GXE.

I'll give #9 a call. Is there a list of incompatable/compatable graphics cards
for AniStudio?
As there is a noticeable high pitch noise comming from my monitor ( Dell
UltraScan replaced 3 times didn't fix the prob), I might upgrade to a
different brand card after all.
Thanks for your help.

There have been a number of reports but very few have been duplicated as bugs.
However, I'll see if I can sort them out:
#9 GXE/Pro
#9 Hawkeye
Matrox Impression Plus (hey! This is *my* card and it works!)
Matrox Ultra
Genoa 8500
Orchid 2 Fahrenheit
VMI S3/864 VLB
Compaq QVision 2000
Cirrus Logic GD 5426 VLB
ATI Graphics Ultra Pro
Diamond Speedstar Pro (ISA)
Diamond Viper Pro
Diamond Stealth 64 (I've used this one and it was okay).
Hope this helps! <g>
Hello Nik, What about the imagine 128? Are there any reports on this card? I
am using it with animator studio, animator pro, and 3D studio. Animator pro
takes unusually long to start ( more than two minutes ) It is a very new card,
and I am getting bugs in 3D studio I have never had before ( like lock ups
during the transforming objects phase during rendering.)
Jon,
Animator Pro taking a long time to start up, could be a Dos 6 thing.
In the past I've used "cfig386 maxV -0" on Animator Pro, aniconvert and the
player. After doing so, the long start up went away.

Thanks Mark, I'll try it. ( the cfig386 thing ) I am also having trouble with
3ds on a pentium 90 with 32 meg ram and the Imagine 128 video card. It is
locking up during the transform objects phase of rendering! Do you know anyone
who might help me with this problem?

Sounds as though you have POWER.EXE in your CONFIG.SYS. Let us know if taking
that out doesn't do the job.
Thanks for the quick response about graphics card compatability. Now the only
question is which one…I think my birthday is coming early this year <g>
Thanks!

Well, I've been using the #9GXE64Pro 4meg PCI, and haven't run into any
problems, though I've heard from others that have.
John
I know this is a little late in this thread, but I have a #9GXE64 and AAS runs
just fine, Bill. I've yet to have a display card related crash (other crashes,
but we're pushing the envelope here!)

My card is the #9GXE(PCI) which I believe is the predicesor to the 64. It was
their first attempt at the PCI buss. Apparently it was only made exclusivley
for the Dell XPS P60.
Thanks for the Info.

Hi,
I started using AniStudio on a machine with #9XGE and it only worked in 65000
color mode. I have since gone to one of the higher end ATI cards which works ok
in 24 bit mode.
Will
happens on my notebook as well. 32K colors works fine, 64K won't run at all.
Regarding which, 32K should be just fine if in fact the display is just
display. The file itself is 32 bit, 24 color 8 greyscale alpha.

Right. It seems to be just the display. Someday it will all come together
(graphics board technology that is) and we will all be in RGBA land or beyond.
