#ST vs Amiga

BTW, do you need some sort of interface for the SC1224, or does it plug right
in?

Allen,
You will need to change the plug on one end, and perhaps (depending on your
Amiga), need to do some other mods. Mine works fine on my 1000, but will not
work on the 2000. I haven't looked into it yet. I do have a 1902, which is
effectively a 1080 without the analog RGB circuitry. I added the circuitry
myself, and am using it on the 2000. Depending on the 1080 you have, it will
range from awful to 'pretty good'. The older style Atari monitor was better
than any 1080 (but not better than the 1070), but the better 1080s are not
quite as bad as henry makes out.

I have a 1084 right now, Larry, and an A500. I wouldn't trust myself to screw
around with the circuitry. Commodore has changed amiga monitors so many times
that I'm not sure what quality level was being sold at the time I purchased my
amiga. Do you think I'd do better with an atari monitor?

I think it depends on what you think of the quality of the 1084 you have now
and how much you are willing to spend to get another one.
The only problem with going the Atari monitor route is the possibility of
having to add some circuitry to make it work. You might ask Henry if he's seen
any 1224s hooked up to a 500, and what was involved in doing it.

I've been trying to force the information out of him, but I think I'll drop the
subject for the reasons you mention. One day I'll see an Amiga hooked up to
some other monitor and if Henry's right I won't let the subject drop until I've
dropped my 1084. Thanks.

I think it depends on what you think of the quality of the 1084 you have now
and how much you are willing to spend to get another one.

The newer style Atari monitors are also much better than the 1080/1084, but you
have to buy it from a dealer who is willing to take the plastic case off and
adjust the focus, brightness, etc. inside the monitor. They come from the
factory in bad shape (and look bad on ST's even.) Wonder why Atari doesn't pay
someone $5 per hour just to adjust the monitors properly on the assembly line..

there for some reason.

(the new model) because they aren't real hot from the factory. That's one
dealership. What about the rest? I know that every 'new' 1224 I've seen looks
horrible, but all the 'old' 1224's looked great.
I know my dealer doesn't do any adjustments on them or the Amgia
monitors….and looking at them side by side, there is very little difference
in picture quality.
