#New ^%$# forums!

Well, it looks like they couldn't leave things well enough alone and here we
are stuck with 3 new forums! I don't mind so much, it'll be easier to read
subjects of interest in the message bases etc. HOWEVER, membership should have
been automatic! I hate joining forums and watching two or three screens fill
with useless trash, much of it repeated from the screens before. The good news
is that I only have two more forums to go!

ditto. Now I nead to check 3 forums each time I get on, and I have to join all
3. Actually, I joined 1 or 2 of them a few days ago – I wonder if it stuck.

Remember Barry, not _everything_ is under sysop control. Membership lists are
maintained primarily by CIS, and there was no obvious way to have them port
them to the new forums. Part of the problem is that, while YOU want to belong
to all three forums, lots of people don't. So even if we could add everyone to
every forum, we'd just have to turn around and do a purge down the road to
remove everyone who weren't REALLY members.
Don't forget ^O and ^P, both of which are useful for skipping stuff you don't
want to read. And we'll hope you only have to go through this hassle once. 8)

What's the matter, Rick, too much "paper work". I thought computers were
supposed to make tasks like that easier? (Or is that only in the IBM and MAC
world?). 8) In any case, I think that the new forums will offer some deffinte
advantages,paticularly with regards to the message base.

I guess I can't explain it properly to you since you don't know the structure
on "this side of the fence"… and I'm not sure I could properly explain THAT.
How about, can I just get you to take it on faith that it would have been a
major hassle to do for numerous people?
Or don't you think sysops have enough work to do already? What's that? Want me
to move that sand pile from over HERE to over THERE? <Chuckle>

P.S. That first word should be "No", not "Mo".
Just joined Amigatech-wow was it a snap using ^P. What is the difference
between ^P and ^O?

Mmmm… realize this is off the cuff and possibly incorrect, but I believe ^P
is an "abort" and a return to prompt, where ^O just toggles off the output
until the next prompt. A subtle distinction at best; ^P will usually do what
you need.

Correct. If the text to be received is short either ^O or ^P appear to work
the same. However, if you've got a LOT of to be sent to you ^O is slow because
the file is still being read, you just aren't sent any output.
Aha. And the reason I never really perceived the difference is that I learned
^O on a VAX direct connect at 9600 baud — which engenders very little delay
-and I've used ^P pretty much exclusively since getting on CIS. Thanks for the
reminder.
