Hi Jim,just a couple of questions with Whap!… firstly,being in Australia,i
use a different packet networks,at
7 data bit , 1 stop , and no parity..the problem being up/downloading using
CISB and Quick B protocols…CoComm and Access! don't support that type of
setup…does Whap! ??? Second problem,which should have been the
first!…logging on
thru all the networks,involves a bit more than thru a CIS local node like mmost
of the other users on here…e.g. I have to lock my modem on to v22(1200FDX)
…dial the packet network i.e. CSCNET… after connecting,wait for the #
prompt…enter 'C'…wait for another prompt ('CENTRE:') ..entering
'CPS'…waiting for 'Host Name:' prompt,and entering 'CIS'…and now the usual
CIS logon with PPN and password!!!. Quite involved as you can plainly see,and
most CIS orientated programs forget about us,the overseas user. I would be most
pleased if your Whap! took these two comments/questions into account,and if it
does…Do you accept VISA card??…if not VISA cards,a cheque(check) will be on
its way to you.

Brendan,
8 bit connection is required for QB and even xmodem. There is NO way
around that.
I'm currently looking at supporting other methods of connect other than
CIS node, TymNet, and TeleNet. If users who come in through more circuitous
routes would email me the _exact_ procedures necessary to connect to
CompuServe, I will attempt to meet their needs.

Hi Jim,well currently i'm using Procomm on my Sidecar for file transfer from
here and yes i am able to download at 7-E-1…naturally i would prefer to use
my Amiga for comms rather than the Sidecar! Do you want more details of my
logon sequence thru CSCNET??..or for that matter would you like details of my
logons thru OTC Data Access???

Brendan,
Procomm switches from 7 bit to 8 bit during a download. You don't have
to do anything except start the download…the rest is automatic.

Hi Don,well if Procomm on a lowly machine such as a ib? can do that,I wonder
why no-one has been able to do the same on such a high-tech machine like an
Amiga!?!? Direct Dial from Australia is so very expensive(about $2 per
minute!!) and on top of that i have to pay for my CIS online time too! I would
really like to buy Whap!,but if i can't up or download with it via the Packet
networks,i won't even bother to do that…that's the one reason why i never
registered CoComm with Ben…don't get me wrong,i quite like CoComm,but i just
don't use it.

Brendan,
Since Procomm switches from 7 bit to 8 bit automatically during downloads,
that then implies that you can indeed have an 8 bit connection.

Hi Jim,well if that is the case,does Whap! do the same???….i could still be
tempted to buy it if i knew that it would for sure…anything to cut my
Overseas/CIS bill down a bit!!!! I tried CoComm once by changing the parameters
just before i tried to download a file,but it didn't work.

Brendan,
Whap! runs 8 bit, just like Procomm. You may have Procomm set up for 7
bit, but it switches to 8 bit for protocol transfers. This means that you can
use 8 bit via your network. Not being familiar with CSCNet I have no idea how
to set it up for an 8 bit connection but it obviously can handle it.
