#Whap! Whoops!
8 messages in this thread
Whoops! For some reason Whap! started working just fine at 2400 baud a little
while ago. No idea why, maybe sunspots?
You should have gotten two Emails from me under two names – same PPN.
My Whap! boot disk is using Arp Ver 1.1. I noticed that View! would not come
up if I copied Arun to Run. I had to copy real AmigaDOS Run into C: in order to
work.
Whap! is really slick! The check will be in the mail on Monday morning. Great
work, Jim!
Geo
George,
Glad it's settled down. Maybe like a new car, you've got to break it in!
Whap! calls View! via the Manx fexec() function. I don't know how that
works. I just care that it does. It probably depends on the CBM distributed
RUN command.
At one point in beta testing Whap! and View were one program. It make it
real nice in that View! came up almost instantly. Unfortunately the program
was a real memory hog. A compromise was made, so, it's now 2 programs.

What would be good would be a way to "read outstanding messages" so that
VIEW! wouldn't have to be read in off floppy every time (yawn.) 🙂
Henry,
In the future, there will be a drop down menu in View! that list all of
your forum selections. Once View! is loaded, you can read messages from all
the forums from View! without having to go back the main screen.
This enhancement is a ways off (but planned) while the current bugs get
taken care of instead adding a new set of bugs to worry about.

Jim,
I love that idea. It has occurred to me several times lately but I feared
mentioning it for the reasons you stated about it being a ways off. Was saving
it for later, glad to see you're putting it in.
…Dave
Well anyway, Jim, Whap! does appear to be fairly stable.
Here's a thought for you to consider for future enhancements to Whap!:
How about adding an option to allow a user to just go in and do Read
Marked messages only and not do a QSN or RTN? Sometimes I just want to pop into
a list of Forums just to check for messages to me and then log off.
Geo
George,
That "feature" is already there, although in a roundabout manner. Double
click on the forum you want to get marked messages in, deselect ALL messages
sections, exit, click on GET NEW MESSAGES. Whap! will log on, if you have
marked messages will download them, then log off. The next time you go to that
forum to get new messages you'll have to remember to activate the sections
again.
Best,
-jcs-
Ok, Jim, I'll give that a try. Thanks.
