#slow response
16 messages in this thread
Why is the new forum structure so slow, I'm getting messages like files busy,
or no response at all for a minute or more when I just try to move through the
menus, it takes 30secs odd to respond to a go AmigaTech. I heven't attempted
the other forums, I don't have the time to waste with this kind of performance.
All this has occurred since the change in structure, the old Amigaforum was
always real fast.
CIS need to improve the performance by about a factor of ten, now!
Kevin
I'm having tons of "file busy" messages also. I wonder if it's all the
whaptalk? 🙂
Agreed!!! I sat idle forever tonight!!!!
What is this "file busy" stuff?
-mark= Demanding User(s) gots to know!
Mark,
It's due to some hardware maintenance at CompuServe. The problems of the
last week (between 8 PM and Midnight EDT) should be resolved by tonight or
tomorrow night at the latest.
I've had the same problem — I wait forever to enter a forum, to go from one
message to the next, and downloads are slower too, it seems to me. And I get
all the "Files busy – Code 5-49" stuff too. What gives? I don't like paying
for the privilege of looking at a frozen terminal screen.
Darron
Darron,
You're not paying for the 'frozen' time, just the time you're actually are
somewhere. From my understanding, while waiting to run programs, CIS suspends
charges.
Doug
Kevin, all I can tell you is they're probably using IBM machines… or at least
(so-called) computers made with intel parts. For further information, ask Steve
Ahlstrom. He's the master/chief sysop here. –Ben–
IBM? Blech. No, they're on DECs, much better.
See my other message in this thread, and Doug Winger's. Or just wait until
tomorrow. 8)
Rick
Ben,
Sorry — DEC
Ben, I thought you knew that CIS uses Dec-10s and 20s (I thought everyone
knew).
Kevin,
From what I understand, the new forums are currently living on a Host that is
_very_ crowded. I also understand that CIS will have the problem cleared by
Wednesday or Thursday.
If you've noticed the job numbers being handed out, you'll see that they are
much higher than normal. That indicates the Host has to handle just about its
limit of users. When Job numbers go much over 150, things start slowing down.
Think what happens when you run a _lot_ of things at once on your machine and
you'll have a good idea of what's happening on a larger scale here.
Doug
Doug is absolutely correct in his statements about what is going on. CIS is
having some major problems, resulting in slow response not only for us but
other forums as well. The powers that be have been saying all along that it
will be fixed Wednesday… and a message from the powers this morning indicate
that everything is in place and the switchover will happen by tomorrow, when
everyone should be back to their old performance level.
I, for one, will not be sorry to see it return.
Rick
Rick,
Seconded. Last night I watched the "have files" message go backwards from
31sec to 60sec. Glad to hear they're straightening it out.
Lee
Thank you, it is obviously fixed now and is much faster tonight.
Kevin
Kevin,
I'm getting the same thing here on my node. Is it because we're all whapping
now? HMmmm….I hope they at CIS speed up things or lower the prices to
reflect the slow down. I thought this three for one split meant improved forum
conditions, but is it that everyone is using just the one forum AmigaTech even
though there are two others?
-Chris-
Chris,
It's because CIS is doing system maintenance, and the forums are currently
living in a 'crowded' host mainframe. Word is that conditions will be back to
normal Wednesday.
