#Whap – qsn problems
4 messages in this thread
I have been generally very impressed with Whap! but have been experiencing a
couple of problems that have been there consistently present in all three
versions of the program. I am using the qsn option and have been having
problems will duplicate and unrequested messages.
Frequently, after I perform the scan, and marking the messages to read, I find
that Whap! will read some of the messages that I didn't mark. This happened
this morning with a 15 message thread that I didn't mark from the Ceforum on
scanners. When I performed actions, Whap! went out and picked up this thread
anyway.
I also have had Whap! present me with the same message more than once in the
scan list. If I'm not careful, I end up marking it twice and therefore end up
downloading it twice.
I have also noticed that the problem with the section names overlaying in qsn
mode that showed up in version 1.1 is still present in 1.2.
Has anyone else who is using qsn noticed these problems? I suspect that most of
the heavy users of Whap! use only the rtn mode, and are missing the bugs still
present when using qsn.
Could you please set yourself in qsn and try skipping some threads on a few
forums to see if you can duplicate these problems? It may be a matter of forum
settings, but I haven't been able to figure it out for myself yet.
Thanks – Dave
Dave,
I have been seeing re-reads of threads using the QSN option. I use it all the
time and it frequently re-reads messages I have already read.

Dave,
I'll look at it more carefully. Whap! is sending a RT ONLY for the
headers you've marked. I have no idea why you'd be getting threads you've
already read unless CompuServe has changed the way read thread works and gives
you everything from the beginning of the thread or that branch of the thread.

Jim,
It's actually more complicated than that. When I get the scan list, the same
thread will show up twice in the list. If I don't notice the duplication, I may
mark both occurrances, and the system will RT for the same thread twice.
The other problem is even stranger. Last night, I did a scan of the Ceforum,
and one of the headers listed a thread of 15 messages on Scanners. As I stepped
through the list I marked a series of threads to be read, but I definately did
NOT mark the thread on Scanners. When I instructed Whap! to perform actions, it
went on line and did an RT on a series of threads INCLUDING the Scanners thread
that I did not mark.
I have experienced this problem before, but had always assumed that my memory
of the threads marked might have been at fault. In this case, I am sure that I
didn't mark the Scanners thread (I made a note of the messages marked while I
was going through the list).
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the program, and will never go back to manually
working the forums. I just want it to be perfect!
Thanks, Dave
