Why doesn't Compuserve tell an individual how long a file is in blocks, how
long it will take to download at 300, 1200 etc? I suppose that would mean that
Compuserve would lose money from their subscribers. I am really $#@%! off at
you people. You mean to tell me that my neighborhood BBS's are more advanced
than Compuseerve? They have all the info on their boards. Just another reason
for me to cancell my subscription. I threatened to do it a few days ago but
didn't. Well after downloading Whap and losing it after 111,000+ blocks due to
insufficcient disk space I have decided to leave you people to screwing the
public. If I had known how long the download was I would have prepared for it.
I knew I had over 100,000 blocks free on my disk but had no way of knowing the
Whap program was that long. I ended up downloading for a half hour at 1200
baud and didn't get anything but a bill from Compuserve. That and the
atrocious message section along with the way you can go around and around and
around and around and around and around in the download section is enough to
drive anyone nutso!! Long live GEnie, Long live GEnie, Long live
GEnie….That can have my money. at least you get what you pay for over there.
H&R Block stink!!! I wont be seeing you. You squeezed the last cent out of
me..

When "Bro"wsing the data libraries you ARE told file length. Divide that number
by you baud rate and then again by 10 to get the best-case transfer time.
Compuserve overhead and the protocol you download with will affect this. Now I
assume you can read (to find the file lengths) and can divide.
Slight error in last message. Either divide the baud rate by ten before
dividing the result into the lenght or more simply, multiply length by ten Then
divide by baud rate.

OF FILE IN BYTES, number of downloads.
Blaming CIS for your ignorance may make you feel better, but it doesn't make
you any less ignorant.

I won't bother to point out that if you had ever thought to READ THE
DOCUMENTATION or ASK PRACTICALLY *ANYONE* HERE, you would have found out that
CIS does indeed tell you EXACTLY how large the file is in bytes. Any one with
any telecommunicating savvy can calculate estimated download time from that
number, as well as the download charges. If you couldn't handle that, there is
even a help file in the DLs explaining how to do it. Pity you never bothered to
ask or read anything on the subject…
Interesting also to find out that somehow Whap! has bloated in size to 14
gigabytes in size… 111,000 XModem blocks, you say? I'm surprised you waited
around for the 1.37 days it took you to download that much information. Of
course it SHOULD have fit on your drive; if you had 100,000 blocks free on an
Amiga disk, that's about 51 gigabytes… must be nice to have a big hard drive
like that. Learn to use the terminology if you're going to use it, Gary.
Getting stuck in infinite loops in the Libraries, are you? Funny how no one
else has that problem…
