#Alps 24pin color printer

I plan to purchase an ALPS 24 pin color printer in the near future. Can anyone please offer comments, opinions on print and graphic quality etc. Also, which printer driver works best with this printer? Thanks, Mike Veit 76067,2107 \ex

Mike, I think you will be vary happy with the Alps 24 pin printer. I run mine with the EpsonLQ2500 driver and it works well. With the new 1.3 Preferences and printer drivers, you will be able to use the EpsonQ driver for your Alps. I do have one suggestion, and that is to purchase either the Prestige Elite or Courier supplemental fonts. The Gothic that comes with the ALQ-224 is just not suitable for any NLQ or corresponce work IMHO. -John

Mike, I lust after the ALPS ALQ-224. It's a VERY nice printer. (I lust after the HP DeskJet too, but it's B&W only and a lot more money). Make sure you get the optional tractor feed — a necessity. The standard font, Gothic, is not the greatest. Pop for 1 or 2 additional font carts.. The Epson LQ-1500 (or is that 2500?) driver works great with it. Just go into the Printer Driver Library and do a BRO/KEY:ALPS* and you'll find a driver for it (based on the Epson driver).

I have an ALPS ALQ-224… You will love it.. With the 1.3 Printer Software (RSN unless you have one of the programs that ships it) use the EpsonQ driver with any density from 1-3. I only wish the color ribbons were cheaper. Larry Rosenman

Larry, That message reminded me of a problem I had when using the Alps with a higher density than three. You seem to know about this problem, and why the Alps won't work with the denser densitys. Can you enlighten me on this? -John

Sure Can.. The Alps can not do 360DPI. The EPSONQ driver sends a Density set string (ESC*+40H+n1+n2) of 40H and the printer says to itscX I haven't the foggiest idea what this turkey;Bnts, so I am gonna print trash… See page 9-82 of the Alps ALQ-200/300 Printer Manual. Larry Rosenman
