Hi folks,
I'm new to CD-ROM technology and very excited about what I'm finding
here. I'm wondering anyone knows whether there is a disk with basic music
industry data on it. What I'm looking for is the standard radio deejay,
Billboard sort of stats about records (who recorded the song, when, the
label, who wrote it, who played on it, etc.) Anything else beyond that
would be gravy. Has anyone heard of such a disk?

I sawe somewher that the Music Master catalog is now available on CD-ROM.
This would have most of the information you seek. I'll see if I can find
more details and send them to you.

I've looked everywhere for the information about the Music Master disc but
with no success. I can't even find my copy of the print version!

Immediately after I admitted defeat I came across the reference I had been
looking for. It was in Pro Sound News (European Edition) December 1992 and
I quote:
Music Master lists placed on CD-ROM
UK- The 2,200 page two volume Music Master information listing containing
data on over 170,000 recordings is now available on CD-ROM. As such it fits
onto a single disc that can be searched for an artist's name, recording
title, label name, distributor or release date.
Widely used by recording executives and radio and TV music
researchers, Music Master is the result of 25 year's research. For use in
the CD-ROM format Music Master requires an IBM PC or true compatible
running MS-DOS or PC-DOS v3.0 or higher, a CD-ROM drive and a parallel

Thank you so much for the information on the Music Master disk. That
sounds like it will fit the bill exactly! (I tell you, no matter how long
I'm on this system, I'm still amazed at its ability to answer questions. As
someone once said about one of the forums years ago, "the 24-hour manual
for everything….")
Incidentally, I'm going to share your note with the folks over in the
Music/Arts and the broadcasters forums, where members also have expressed
interest in such a CDROM.

Glad I could help. The Music Master disc certainly does sound interesting
but I'm a Mac user so I'll have to do without for the moment. If you do get
the disc let me know what you think of it.
