Sorry, did'nt mean to offend but I am from the VAX/VMS world where 9mb is
childs play. Good systems there are equipped with at least 32 mb. As for the
IBM PC clowns they deserve they're 640k machines for being so brain damaged as
to cling the old segmented architecture.

Hi, Guys. (Jumping in, and out). And to think that just 24 short years ago I
learned programming on a 4kw. PDP-8i. 😎 😎 It was a BIG thing when the boss
had another 4k installed. (Ah paper tape & Dectape). Those were the days! *-)

If I remember correctly, the maximum memory of an 11/750 is 8 Mbytes.

The VAXes in question were 6000 and 8000 series VAXes, all 11/750 have been
sold to the Navy for use as anchors…

Our UNIX minis at work have 64 Meg of RAM in them, and if I really
wanted to…I could put it on my desktop. But I certainly wouldn't put them
into the "personal computer" category any more than I'd put the VAX machines
into that category.
Believe me, 9 Meg in an Amiga is plenty for the time being.

Don, I agree with you. I normally have anything from 5 to 9 megs in my system
at any one time, and I have yet to run out of memory. (grin)

I think that you can have more than 9 meg on an Amiga if you add a 68020 card
that supports 32-bit RAM. Would someone else confirm that? I don't know
whether anyone actually _makes_ the memory cards to do it with. I'm certain
that mere mortals can't afford them, anyway.

There are some accelerator cards that will allow more than 9M on the system.
Don't know which ones they are, but as long as I don't have one of them, I am
happy! Those type of accelerators require an "addmem" program to add this
memory to the system because you can't autoconfigure any memory our of the
Amiga's "normal" 24 bit memory address range. This also means you can't DMA
into/out of this memory with your HD controller.
If you ask anybody with this type of accelerator board if they would buy it
again, they would probably say no.

Isn't there an 030 board either out there or being advertised that supports up
to 32Mb or RAM? I _believe_ it's the CSA one.

The big difference is in the OS and the average application. VMS systems
_NEED_ that much memory. The AMiga doesn't.
