#IBM-Amiga DOWNLOAD?
5 messages in this thread
I have an IBM with telecommunications software, and an Amiga without. Does
anyone know that it will work if I get the Amiga to format a disk, and have the
IBM download a telecommunications software program for my Amiga? I will
appreciate your help, for it shall save me the uploading time to find out
myself
Thankyou
David Rotolo
The Amiga will not run IBM software. Are you using the IBM to download an Amiga
telecommunications package, to a 5 1/2" disk, which you will then mount on an
Amiga to run? If so, this should work. If you are trying to download IBM
software to a 5 1/2" disk to run on an Amiga, that won't work, unless you have
Commodore's sidecar, or Bridgeboard accessories. Those 2 things are
hardware/software add ons that have an IBM PC clone builtin. They of course can
run IBM software on your Amy, but a barebones Amiga will only run Amiga
software. Hope this helps!
David, what if you're downloading Amiga software onto an IBM 3.5" disk in 720k
format? Will the Amiga's PCCOPY program work to read that disk without anything
extra in terms of PD or commercial software, or extra hardware?

David,
The easiest way to get started with telecomm on your Amiga is to download (or
just capture) the file in LIB 2 called 'NEWUSR.MSB, which is a text file
containing a 'type-in' program that you can run on the Amiga under Amigabasic.
It will let you download a better terminal program, and once you have that, you
are all set to go.

Dave,
I have been in that very situation. I would advise you to download
NewUsr.MSB from LIB 4 (a simple comm program in AmigaBASIC) with your IBM, type
the program into the Amiga by hand (ugh!), then use it to upload a better
communications program to the Amiga.
That is not what I did (I went out and bought a terminal program for the
Amiga), but I bet it will work fine.
I still do all of my 'phone' work with the IBM, and transfer files to
the Amiga via a hardwire null modem cable at 19,200 baud.
Good Luck Bob.
