The Trantor upgrade kit works very well with single session Photo CD discs and the Sony Laser Library. I've experienced no problems with it and it does speed drive access by a large margin. Kind of like getting a whole new drive for $39.00. Trantor did a nice job on the upgrade.

Sounds like what I need. Do you have a phone number and/or a location for Trantor?

Trantor has a sales line at 1-800-TRANTOR or you can call 510-770-1400. The Sony Laser Library upgrade is $39 plus shipping.

Joel or Greg, I,too, have the Sony Laser Library CD-ROM and would be very interested in hearing exactly what the Trantor upgrade consists of. The last time I checked about Photo CD compatiability for the Sony LL,I was told I'd have to purchase a $400 card to allow it to read Photo CD's.

The Sony Laser Library upgrade kit consists of a set of jumpers and a new device driver to add read-ahead cache and Photo CD single session compatiblity. It works ONLY on the Sony cards, not on any of the non-Sonly OEM cards.

Even without the need for Photo CD, the Trantor upgrade will turn the old 7205 into a MPC capable drive and even let you view .AVI files at a decent rate. Trantors number is (800) TRANTOR.

Why is Greg, sending a message to Trantor Systems telling them what their phone number is? Hmmmmm, curious! 🙂

I must have replied to a reply rather than a message………. xit

Is this upgrade an "official" product released by Sony or a third party upgrade strictly from Trantor Systems. IOW, could I buy it from any Sony dealer? Is $39 the suggested Retail Price or a Trantor discounted price?

Trantor and Sony worked together to provide this upgrade. $39 is the direct price… there are no discounts on it! Sony will refer you to Trantor to get the Laser Library driver kit.
