Just got the Multimdedia Madness book last weekend and was wondering why I can't run Nautilus with my 16 bit or 24 bit driver installed. It runs fine when I have my 8 bit/256 color driver installed. Above that my computer just crashes. This might not be suprising considering that I have the dreaded 24X graphics card installed. Is this a known problem? Brent

I have a Reveal 24 bit card with the same problem. Ask your card manufacturer if they have a driver update that will work. Some 24 bit drivers choke on 256 color graphics because of their Windows driver.

Brent: Just to let you know that it's possible, I'm running Nautilus in 24 bit X 1024 X 768 on a TIGA based card. Is your card TIGA or S3? Do you have the latest Windows drivers -Ed

99.9999% of the time (I won't admit to 100%, but it's never failed yet) the problem you are describing is solved with an updated video driver. Don't ask me why, but if there's a problem in someone's video driver, Nautilus will find it. Unfortunate, but solve-able… Margo Riedel Nautilus
