#Workbench 2.0 HELP
14 messages in this thread
Maybe some other users that are using 2.0 can help me out a little….
I have seen pics of 2.0 with 3d type front/back/close gadgets…
my versionn does not have these…..
I have tried using the background wbpatterns and I cant seem to get the
program to work. I can save or choose the use ons and I still do not get
any patterns…. even when rebooting…. what gives ?
Is there an IFF viewer that allows a window to be opened and resized
instead of a whole screen ? I have seen a pic of wb2.0 and a nagel
picture in a window ….. Id like to know how to do that.
Thanks in advance
You may have a defective copy of 2.0. My version does not have 3D
front/back/close gadgets — or at least not what I'd call 3D. However, the
background patterns work just fine. Is everything else on your copy
functioning properly? What is your version number? Mine is 36.68.

what's the deal.. I thought 2.0 wasn't available yet. If it is I'd surely
like to know how to get a copy… Bill
Bill:
Well, it's sort of available… If you want a copy of it, you'll have to
buy an Amiga 3000, or wait untill September when it gets released for the
2000, and who knows when it'll get released for the 500!

In sunny Fort Lauderdale
2.0 is now shipping with 3000s. I don't think it will be sold seperately
until September, when it is supposed to be genuinely final.
-Brian
thanx, that was my understanding, and I will just wait with baited breath
until it is officially released. IF I did buy a 3000, would I be able to
run 2.0 on my 2000, or would I need the 2.0 rom set? Just curious, I doubt
I'll upgrade this time unless I find a really pressing reason, or a lot of
discretionary cash… Bill
I think you could run it on your 2000. The 3000 comes with Kickstart 2.0
on disk as well as in ROM.
-Brian
I SERIOUSLY doubt you could get 2.0 to run on a 2000 from the disks you get
with a 3000 How would you disable the 1.3 ROMs? tell the 2000 to look on a
floppy for kickstart?? It would be w\quicker to wait for september! ;>
Good point. I had forgotten the 2000 automatically looks to the ROMs,
since the 3000 appears to default to the floppy if a Kickstart is there. At
least that's the only explanation I have for the fact that it appears to
load KS from disk if you have one in df0:. Kickstart loaded that way takes
up a different amount of memory from KS from ROM. (Or am I totally
misinformed here?) In any event, thanks for the correction on running on a
2000. I'll be sure not to misinform anyone else! 🙂
-Brian
I did a little more digging, and here is what I found… The 3000 has a
very small KS which is used to load the KS off the disk into RAM. THis is
why it seems to take up so much room. If you have a MMU ( either the one
built in to the 030 or the chip that works with the 020 ) you could
conceivably run 2.0 on a 2000. I suspect I will wait till September, I am
just too lazy to play with that stuff… Bill
Bill,
Without going into the gory details (because I can't), I can tell
you that it is possible to run v2.0 on a plain jane A2000 without changin
the ROM.
It requires specialized software (NOT the software that comes with
the A3000) and extra memory.

Mine is 36.10 I cant see that it would make that much of a difference
since they are really close to each other. I might not understand how to
make the background patterns work correctly. I load the wbpattern, draw
the pattern, select SAVE from the window (not the pulldown menus) and then
it writes to the disk. Maybe my startup seq is incorrect or
something…….
I just did exactly that, and it worked fine. I am using the stock
startup-sequence that came with 2.0, with the addition of assigns for
3DPro. It's a mystery to me.
