System 7.1 on 800k disks

I was worried about getting System 7.1 because I don't have a high density
drive. People here were saying I'd have to talk my local Apple dealer
into giving them to me on lo density disks or find an Apple certified
developer with a cdrom image of the lo density disks.
Well, I bought System 7.1. It had a piece of paper that said to call this
number to get the disks sent to me on lo density. That's it. Easy as
pie.
is 7.1 compatible with AMAXII?
Is 7.0.1 on 800k disks?

I got system 7.0.1 the easy way (at least for me) I have MAC IIci at work
where I have a syquest cartridge and tape drive. I brought home a MAC
formatted cartridge with system 7.0.1 on it and AMAX ran it like a champ.
In the past, I just brought tapes with data backed up with Retrospect home.
No problemo.

Jonathan: I have a SyQuest removable cartridge system as well and was
wondering what driver you are using on the MAC system to format MAC
compatible cartridges. (Or do you need a driver?) I currently just use
Amiga partitions fomatted by MAC system 6.0.7 under Amax. (Am using Amax
2.5 on an Amiga 3000.) Many thanks. -David Cattell
I'm using DiskMaker which I got free when I purchased MacTools Deluxe. It
works great. I formatted my Syquest with it and backup to my Syquest
regularly.
I currently work for a company that sells Syquest cartridges and I use the
MAC formatter that comes with it. It works great. It also has an INIT for
the automounting and unmounting by way of dumping the icon in the
trash…..

Yes, the formatter is available separately. It is posted in the MAC

Also, to those interested, another way to install System 7.1 is to bring
the 7.1 disk images over to the Amiga and use the MountImage cdev and
install from there. Works great!

Where does one get these "disk images", from the MACSYS forum libraries?
Same with "MountImage cdev"? Please elaborate a bit further on the above
statement.

The MountImage cdev is a utility found in the Mac forums.. I don't recall
which, you may wish to use the Mac file finder… The disk images will
have to be sourced yourself. A friend, mac dealer, etc.. You can use
Apple File Exchange or some other utility to transport the actual images…

I can't get System 7.0.0 to work on m system…i have the apple 800K
version. when i boot Install 1, it tells me "Not enough memory while using"
then a blank line. NEVER tells me what it was using!!!! even after
installing it on the 40MB AX0: partition (boot via the 6.0.7 on the Disk
Tools disk), and installing the Sys 7 TuneUp 1.1.1, I STILL get the same
thing. I upped the RAM from 5MB to 7MB…same thing! (4MB on a SupraRam
card, 512K chip, 512K on MB REV 4.4 B2000 motherboard)
PS..using external Amax, using Mac Plus ROM's. tried AmaxII Ver 2.06,2.50,
and 2.53….any ideas? anyone? I got 6.0.8 running right now, and it works
GREAT!! but I saw Sys 7 at my friend's Apple shop, and i'd *really* like to
run Sys7! any help would be *GREATLY* appreciated.

year now…

I thought system has to be installed from Installation disk? 7.0.1 only
comes on 1.4MB disks.

Not what my dealer has said to me. In fact he had a complete set of DD 800K
disks already made up for another customer when I had inquired about the HD
DD problem. As he puts it, he just copies the disks from the Macintosh
developers CD. All the System versions are on it, and both high density and
double density versions of System 7.0.1 are on it.

The Syquest I have was installed from a MAC IIci with the original 1.44
disks. I then brought the Syquest home and it worked without a hitch.

Good question about 7.1 being compatible with AMAXII. I think another
user here is running 7.1. I'll find out soon enough.
I don't think 7.0.1 is on 800k disks. You'll probably have to call Apple
like I did to get them in that format.

Any good macintosh dealer can make copies of 7.0.1 from the developer's
CD (which has all the different OS versions on it), and either give the
copies to you free or charge a nominal copying fee. I believe starting
with 7.1 ALL macintosh owners will have to now pay for new versions of the
System OS. My dealer did this for me with 6.07. & there is a 7.0.1 800K
DD disk version available, it just takes more of them. <grin>
Alas, before I was able to get the 7.0.1 disk set and the tuneup disk,
my local dealer went belly up. And this Computerland store sold MAC, IBM &
CLONES, and our beloved AMIGA! <sigh>
