Hello,could you please tell me if the Canadian mag AmigoTimes is still in
business? and also if Incognito Software are still in business ( master
disk of OPTICKS for replacement as it was damaged and have not had it
returned.) THKS/Laurie Carroll
I've tried tracking down Incognito, too, with no luck. Seems as though
they've lived up to their name. 🙂
I'm not sure about AmigoTimes. Some time back I had heard one of their
"writers" complain loudly on usenet about not being paid. Later there was
another posting saying that the writers had been paid, and the magazine
will be back soon. If you have a back issue, I'd try giving them a call.
They were at World of Amiga/NYC a few months back saying the issue would
be out in a few weeks. It never came.

I'm another writer who hasn't been paid. So far, I've gotten NO response
to letters sent to them or to various phone messages. If checks are going
out, that's terrific news. Does anyone know how to collect if a response
is not forthcoming? I've never run into this situation before…..Nancy
I've been told that AmigoTimes is coming back "from the great beyond", but
I haven't heard anything besides that. I've run into this sort of thing
before with a magazine that lasted for one issue over in England. (Enigma).
I finally just wrote it off, and chalked it up to experience.

Lots of us who wrote for Transactor would probably just say to forget it!
How can you collect from a magazine that no longer publishes?

As others here have pointed out, you are definitely not alone on this. I
found myself in a similar situation with another defunct magazine – the UK
version of Transactor for the Amiga. (I did manage to get paid by the
Canadian version of TransAmi for that of mine that they actually published,
just not for another article which never made it to print). Since I have
absolutely no means of attempting to collect from the UK, I've just written
things off, so to speak. It sure isn't worth the cost of a trip to London
to try to collect the relative pittance I'm owed.
However, the experience has tended to sour me in terms of wanting to
write for any more Amiga publications. Who needs the agrievation! My
time's better spent doing software development (so I can get screwed by a
different type of marketing slime <grin>).
At least you still have a small semblance of hope of collecting. Hang
in there, you may get lucky. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it, though.

Yours may be the wise choice. However, overall, I've been real lucky.
There are definitely magines who treat writers well. I've found a few.

Today I heard someone saw the next issue of AmigoTimes on the newstand.
That's all the info I have so far.

Did they say what city (or country) it was seen? I have th majority of a
$72subscription left….
Rumor now has it that it has gone under, previously the rumor around
here (Ottawa, Canada) was that INFO mag was supposedly buying it out. But
the way the economy is up here, the worst probably happened. Their phones
weren't answered and neither was their mail. If you really want to know, I
could check with Consumer and Corporate Affairs as to their situation.
AmigoTimes was a great publication.
AmigoTimes is supposedly back on track, according to someone they had at
the Developer's Conference in Atlanta a couple weeks ago. They apparently
found a way to pay for the publication of the next issue. The hope for a
merger with INFO disappeared a long time ago. Not getting paid is almost as
having articles that were accepted, never printed, but perhaps may someday
see the light of day.
Did the new issue of AmigoTimes (the first since the stoppage) ever
ship?
