#Makefile (Again)

Mike:
I can't seem to get a system command executed out of a makefile as is
shown in the manual regarding make on p. 4-15. I terminate with an exit
code '1'.
These are my last lines, and the link is successful.
comm: $(OBJECTS)
ln -g -o RAM:comm $(OBJECTS) -lc
fh0:c/echo "hello, there"
Any ideas?
Regards Tom
Are you running 2.0 by any chance? Normal system commands work fine, but
things like 'echo' are no longer in the 'C:' directory, so the makefile
exec will fail. Under 1.3, your example works fine, although I'm not sure
why you're giving a complete path name to the program.

Mike:
I'm running 1.3.2 on an A2500. I do have "Echo" in my C: directory. Is
it Arp? I've always used Arp. What I posted was my last effort. I have
had my system commands jammed against the left margin, as per the manual,
preceded by a tilde, preceded by the "at" char, with and without full path
names, and then all repeated indented as per the example. I am told on
stdout that my commands are going to fail even before the linker is done.
Es gibt "Error <command line repeated>"
Then Syntax error <~>
And then the link (which command appears ABOVE the others) goes on its
merry way. Failing this, I will post the entire makefile. It isn't very
long.
Thanks.

Yes, please post the makefile. I tried an example very similar to yours
here and it worked wihtout a hitch.

Tom,
Are both the command lines started with a TAB character? Using spaces is
one of the most common causes of failing to execute a command from make.

Larry:
Just the mention of your name solves the problem!!! 😎 It is the fact
that I have a linker violation in the command line immediately preceding
the line calling for the "cute" stuff! I will try the TAB/ spacebar combo
as soon as I go off line. If that IS still a problem, Mike's Legion better
solve it, because there would be no necessity for being that picky in the
"make" program that I see.
How are you doing? I haven't harassed you in a long time, because I
haven't messed much with assembly. 😎 Once one has a hard drive, one can
be profligate in the use of disk space. This encourages C programs. 😎
Regards Tom
Thomas,
Good luck with make. I don't know if Mike's Legion _should_ 'solve' the
problem, since it would make make (?) incompatible with all previous
versions. Of course it requires a TAB just to see if you are on your toes
and reading the docs. 🙂
I'm doing just fine, thanks. Still plugging away at far too many projects.
